'Purampokku' shoot cancelled to protest against Sri Lankan government

Chennai, Aug 4 (IANS): Director S.P. Jananathan decided to cancel the shooting of his upcoming Tamil film "Purampokku" Monday to protest against Sri Lankan government for publishing content degrading Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha.

The protest is against a recent article published on the Sri Lankan defence ministry's website on Jayalalithaa and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"The unit of 'Purampokku' decided to stall its shooting schedule on Aug 4 and join the protest declared by the Director's Union against the Sri Lankan government," Jananathan said in a statement.

"The humiliation meted out to the ruler is a humiliation to a citizen," he added.

Sri Lanka has since apologised for the article.
