Mangalore: Devadigara Sangha awards scholarships to deserving students

Mangalore, Aug 4: Karnataka State Devadigara Sangha in association with Devadigara Sangha, Dubai and other donors, distributed scholarships to students from SSLC to degree at a formal programme organized at the Devadiga Samaja Bhavan, Mannagudda here on Sunday August 3.

Participating as the chief guest at the event, mayor Mahabala Maarla said that the students who have received the scholarship must make use of it and study hard so that in future they too could help other financially backward students after getting jobs, and also help the community people to develop in the field of education.

Another chief guest of the function, Harish Sherigar, entrepreneur, renowned singer, multi-faceted talent and president of Devadiga Sangha, Dubai said that, earlier due to lack of facilities, students used to struggle to pursue education but still we have given importance to education and worked hard and succeeded in achieving fame in the society.

Harish Sherigar also said that today students have more opportunity to pursue their education and in addition, parents and community people also render their support to fulfill their desire. Hence, students must make use of this opportunity and achieve their goals with dedication. He also assured his personal support to students who wish to pursue their higher education.

He also suggested the students not to misuse the modern technology like computers and mobile phones just for social networking sites like Facebook but use it for good purpose to gain general knowledge.

He also thanked the office-bearers and members of Dubai Devadiga Sangha and other donors from Dubai for providing the scholarships to the needy students.

Chief guest Dr B S Sherigar, retired vice-chancellor of Shimoga University said that Harish Sherigar who is a renowned singer and entrepreneur must be a role model to every student, since he has shaped his future despite of financial problem. It is a matter of pride that students from various places come to receive scholarship, he added.

B G Mohandas, founder president of Devadiga.com and former president of Dubai Karnataka Sangha said that it is a matter of pride for the community that a large number of students from various places had gathered at the function to receive the scholarships.

On behalf of Dubai Devadiga Sangha, he also assured to provide further assistance to Karnataka Devadiga Sangha.

"Harish Sherigar is a model to every student receiving the scholarship and every student must lead his/her life with courage and build their own personality in the society," he said.

Karnataka State Devadigara Sangha president Vaman Maroli presided over the event. Maroli said that Harish Sherigar is not only providing financial assistance to the Devadiga community, but also helping students from other communities to obtain education.

Later, Harish Sherigar handed over a laptop to the top scoring SSLC student Ashwin Kumar Kundapur and honoured him.

The community also handed over scholarships to the top scoring students of degree and post graduation.

General secretary of Association M Devdas, union secretary Yashawanth Devadiga Kadri, women's unit president Geetha V Kallianpur, youth wing president M H Prashanth and others were present on the dais.

Subhash Kanwatheerta welcomed the guests and gathering. Srinivas Devadiga and Yashaswini Devadiga compered the programme and Association treasurer Suresh Nitilapura proposed the vote of thanks.

    ನನ್ನ ಹೆಸರು ಅಭಿಜಿತ್ ನಾನು ದ್ವಿತೀಯ ಪಿಯುಸಿ ಯಲ್ಲಿ 493(82.16) ಅಂಕಗಳನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದಿರುತ್ತೇನೆ. ನನಗೆ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರ್ ಓದ ಬೇಕೆಂದು ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಆದರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಪರಿಸ್ತಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅದನ್ನು ಓದಲು ತುಂಬಾ ಕಷ್ಟ ವಾಗಿದೆ. ನನಗೆ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ವೇತನ ನೀಡಿ ಸಹಾಕರಿಸಬೇಕಾಗಿ ಕೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೇನೆ.
