Udupi, Aug 23: Opposing the government’s move to acquire more land than what is required for the Bannanje-Kadiyali road widening project, the Udupi Nagarika Samiti will hold a protest rally on Tuesday.

In a meeting held here at Hotel Durga International, the decision was taken. Accordingly, the rally will begin from Kadiyali and reach DC’s office after passing through Kalsanka, city bus stand and Bannanje road.

In a press release the samiti stated that it opposed the construction of the road as it would require the razing of a large number of houses, commercial complexes, and other buildings on the stretch. Many families would be affected by the widening of the road.

The samit has suggested that an alternative road be constructed from Hotel Sharada International to MGM College, Udupi.
