Puttur: Woman killed after tree branch falls on her

Puttur, Aug 5: A woman walking by the road at Palike on Karvelu-Madattaru road in Biliyoor village near Uppinangady lost her life in a fateful accident which occurred on Monday August 4 morning. The branch of a tree fell on her just when she was passing through it and inflicted injuries on her. She died while being carried to hospital.

The unlucky victim of this accident has been identified as Shalini (35), wife of Gopal Naik from Kudtakumeru in Biliyoor village.

As usual, Shalini had visited the bidi branch located at Karvelu on Monday morning. The accidental fall of branch occurred on her return trip. Shalini's brother-i-law who happened to pass by at that time, saw the accident and called Arogya Kavacha ambulance service of the government. Shalini died while being shifted to a hospital in Puttur by ambulance.

Shaini has left behind her husband, Gopal, daughter named Chaitanya, and son, Chetan. It is learnt that the branch of the said tree had already partly been broken due to rain and wind, and was dangling from the tree. It suddenly snapped just when Shalini was walking by the tree.

A case was registered in this connection at Uppinangady police station.
