Udupi, Aug 5: “Now a days primary students are very much interested in science, but as they advance in classes the interest decreases and it is almost zero at college level. Something must be done to create interest in students,” said P R Vishwanath, former professor at TIFR and IIA.
He was speaking as a chief guest during the inauguration of the UGC sponsored two-day National Level Seminar on 'Astrophysics and Quantum Mechanics' NSAQ – 2014 at Milagres College near Sukver Jubilee Hall on Friday August 1. The seminar was organized by the Department of Physics of the college and Association of Physics teachers, Mangalore University.
Fr Stany B Lobo inaugurated the seminar along with other guests on the dais by lighting the lamp. Dr Nery Cornelio, principal of Milagres College presided the occasion. P R Vishwanath, Dr A R Usha Devi, Associate Professor of Physics, Bangalore University, Dr Sudha, Assistant Professor of Physics, Kuvempu University, Dr A P Bhat, president of Association of Physics Teachers, Mangalore University, Dr Gerald Pinto, convener of the seminar and Dean of the Science faculty Milagres College and professor Archana Dabade co-convener of the seminar were present on the dais.
Dr Gerald Pinto welcomed the gathering while professor Archana Dabade proposed the vote of thanks. Sr Jacintha Crasta compered the programme.
