Udupi, Aug 7: Nine days of Novena at Our Lady of Vailankanni Shrine, Kalmady began from Wednesday August 6.
Fr Denis D’sa PRO of Diocese of Udupi and parish priest of St Antony Church, Kuntalnagar inaugurated the novena by hosting the flag.
Fr Denis presided over the Holy Eucharistic celebrations followed by Adoration. During the Homily Fr Denis elaborated on the topic for the first day of the novena which was 'Mother Mary the first faithful.'
Fr Alban D’souza, parish priest of Stella Mary’s Church was also present. Hundreds of devotees took part in the novena and special prayers were made for the all faithful people.
The second day's novena will be based on 'Mother Mary: Mother of the Church' and special prayer service will be conducted for all priests and religious people; third day will be on 'Mary Mother of Jesus with other women' and special prayers for all youth; fourth day 'Mary mother of good health,' special prayer service for all patients; fifth day 'Mother Mary obedient to God's Word,' special prayers for all children; sixth day 'Mother Mary Queen of Family,' special prayers for all families; seventh day 'Rosary my loving prayer (Pope John Paul II),' special prayers for all mothers; eight day 'Mother Mary says, 'Do whatever He tells you,' special prayers for all sponsors and ninth day 'Mother Mary model of Love and Service,' special prayers for all devotees.
On these days, Novena and Eucharistic mass will be held at 4.00 pm. On Wednesday August 13, Horekannike procession will begin from Adi Udupi Jucntion at 2.30 pm and Dr Francies Seravo, Bishop, Diocese of Shimoga will preside over the Holy Euachristic celebrations.
'Immaculate Conception and Assumption' feast will be celebrated on Friday August 15 and Dr Jerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop, Diocese of Udupi will be the main celebrant. During these days, the theme will be 'Family devoted to Mother Mary; filled with God's presence.'
A fellowship meal will be arranged on August 15 for all the devotees.
