Kolkata, Aug 27 : BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah on Saturday said while Sourav Ganguly had a fair chance to make it to the Champions Trophy, Sachin Tendulkar was fully fit to resume action.
Talking to the media on a day's visit to the city, Shah told reporters, ''Sourav is a very good player and an excellent batsman. He is also contracted with the BCCI. So there is no reason why he can't be back into the side. But the final decision is with the national selectors. Lets hope for the best,'' he added.
Sourav Ganguly has been out of favour with the BCCI, ever since the new regime took over, and has been left to prove his batting form to get into the side. To make things worse his English County season did not flourish and the cricketer is working overtime on his form and fitness to make his mark.
Meanwhile, Shah said, ''Sachin Tendulkar has been given a fit certificate by physio John Gloster and he has also opened on two occasions.'' Talking about the preparations for the Champions Trophy, he said, ''The Indian cricket team will have a staggered training camps in Bangalore followed by two practice matches.''
''In the earlier camps all the players were trained together but in the latest camp, proposed by the team management, the team will be split into units of five each and each unit will have separate training stints under the quartet of coach Greg Chappell, trainer Gregory King, physio John Gloster and bio-mechanist Ian Frazer,'' he said.
''At the end of the camp, they will be divided into teams and play two practice matches,'' he added.
He also said that India's stand on the Darrell Hair issue was still neutral as Pakistan had not approached them and I S Bindra will visit the ICC Executive Committee meet where he will present India's point of view.
ICC executive body meet is scheduled for September 2, 2006 and the Darrell Hair issue is sure to come up as a point in the agenda.
On the topic of whether Twenty20 will be, included in the Commonwealth games, he said, ''The association has not approached us. Let them do so and then we will think about it.''
