Udupi, Aug 10: Senior journalist and media adviser Dinesh Amin Mattu held an interaction with media persons on Saturday August 9 at Press Club here.

Addressing the gathering, he said that the media should be unbiased on all issues. He added that being a journalist, he had to be sensitive, optimistic, and empathetic to society. Mattu said that he always obeyed his duty.

“The media should be aware of responsibilities and must work towards society as well as build public interest,” added Mattu.

“While sharing his experiences, a more sensitive journalist might be an activist. It is very dangerous when a politician comes to media. A paper which follows an anti-establishment editorial policy, can survive in this competitive era,” he explained.

He further said that observing the media development evoked fear in him as on one hand, the media is developing while at the same time values have been changing.

He said that he was disappointed about the commercialization of the newspaper.

“Paid news concept is a new trend. Media gives more preference to advertisement than news,” added Mattu.

Nowadays, the social media plays a crucial role in creating public opinion; so everyone has become a journalist. Mattu said that people had forgotten many famous writers and personalities.

“The media needs to create credibility among people. At times, the media persons fall in a dilemma, but should have consciousness and only then can they survive,” he added while presenting the Kadengodlu Award to Vasudeva Adiga in a felicitation programme held at Raveendra Kala Auditorium , MGM College, Udupi.
