Mangalore, Aug 11: "During the session in Upper House, I have raised various questions regarding the problems of the people," said MLC Ivan D' Souza while addressing a press meet at a private hotel in the city on Monday August 11.

He said, “With R V Deshpande, I have raised the issue of forming a Teachers’ Services Recruitment Board which can recruit teachers to government schools/colleges and state universities. The government has considered my demand. Karnataka government is providing midday meals to school children and there is also a format in which the teacher has to enter the name of students, dividing them under class and religion. If a school teacher divides students, then what unity can be taught? Hence, I asked the minster to stop this and the government has also appreciated my suggestion.”

“I have also asked the government to ensure that the Knowledge Commission produces a report every three months. The government is providing free education to girls but in aided colleges and institutions government fees will be less but they are collecting management fees which will be very expensive. Hence, I even asked the government to provide free education to government-aided colleges,” added Ivan.

“Apart from this, I have also demanded that a government medical college be constructed in the city. Another question was about cancellation of the Mangalore-Kuwait direct flight which the minister assured will be re-established soon. I also demanded that the government provide subsidy for jasmine cultivation. Another issue I raised was an increase in the number of passports processed by the Passport Seva Kendra to 1,000 passports per day as opposed to the current 350 per day,” he claimed.

“Moreover, I also demanded that the government establish a High Court bench in the district and provide pension to junior advocates. I have raised 38 questions on people’s problems. Even before becoming an MLC I have been familiar with their issues,” said Ivan.

When asked about the MCC commissioner, Ivan said that within three days the government will appoint a new commissioner.

On it being pointed out that politicians will give assurances but fail to implement these, he said that he has raised several issues and will follow up on these.

On this occasion, Ibrahim Kodijal, Shashidar Hegde, Ashith Periera, Mithun Rai and Nazeer Bajal were present.
