Udupi: Case of missing boy - Man who hired him arrested

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Aug 13: It is learnt that Santosh Shetty from Mudrady in Hebri, who claimed that he had hired Mallikarjun, son of Basavaraj Haligeri and Shantavva couple from Bagalkot district and presently living near Kaup, for a short period, was arrested on Tuesday August 12.

Mallikarjun

The parents of Mallikarjun, who had found the boy in a bad shape in the intensive care unit of a hospital in the town on July 30, about two months since he went missing under mysterious circumstances from his home, had suspected that he was tortured. The boy had a fractured hand, and was unable to speak. Initially, Hebri poilce had dithered in the matter of booking Santosh Shetty, who reportedly runs a hotel in Hebri, in this case.

Under pressure from Children's' Welfare Committee (CWC) officials and higher officials in police department, Hebri police at last registered a case against Santosh Shetty under section 338 of the Indian Penal Code on August 10. Shetty surrendered before the police on Tuesday, and the police said they had released him on bail.

In all likelihood, Shetty will also be booked under the Prohibition of Child Labour Act, as the officials have found that as per school records, Mallikarjun is less than 13 years old. CWC has already directed the labour department to register a case under this act.

CWC chief, B K Narayan, said that the boy is currently recovering in Welock Hospital Mangalore. He said that the department will be taking all steps for his rehabilitation like health improvement and schooling, among others.

the story reminds me of my school days, I had finished my PU, during the vacations I had some issues at home & I decided to leave home & work , left home with just Rs 26 & was enough to buy a ticket from Katapady to Mlore, spent whole day sitting in bus stop, but when cold & hunger reminded me of my home, went to a bar & restaurant nearby & asked whether he can give any job suitable for me, it was easy for him to guess I left home 7 stranded, he called waiter & asked him to give me some food & asked me to sleep upstairs & to start working form next day morning, in the morning he arranged soap, paste everything from a nearby grocery, but the same night 1 of the cook slapped me for using his blanket, so next day before owner arrives i ran away with the broken lips. that much was enough to miss my mom badly, Why i was mentioning this bcoz we cant say the hotel owner is wrong in this case without proper investigation. Whoever left home first they search for food next shelter. why cant we thank the owner first for availing food & shelter to someone in need? I may be wrong in guessing but due to my personal life incident, I can say the owner whom i met looked like an angel for me.

Stop this Taliban behaviour Santosh Shetty. Day 1 itself i had doubt that he is the culprit and cause. Also a case of Kidnapping and forceful possession to be filed immediately. No bail to be given to him at any cost. We must give justice to the vulnerable sections of the society.
