M'lore: 'Kodiyal Khabar' to organize memorial for B V Baliga

Mangalore, Aug 14: Konkani bi-­weekly, 'Kodiyal Khabar,' which is being published from the city since the last seven years, will organize a memorial in honour of renowned Konkani journalist and founder editor of Konkani monthly, 'Panchkadayi,' the late B V Baliga.

The occasion, aptly titled, 'Konkani Kalo B V Balo Samsmaran,' which will coincide with the 96 Baliga, will be held in the auditorium of Nalanda School on Vithoba Temple Road in the city at 4.30 pm on Saturday August 16.

During the programme, a debate on a work on Konkani journalism, 'Jagaran,' authored by renowned Konkani researcher and writer, Paul Moras will be arranged. President of Konkani Sahitya Academy, Ronald Castelino and secretary of Vishwa Konkani Students Scholarship Endowment Fund Pradeep G Pai will participate as chief guests. The programme is being held in association with the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.

Secretary of the city based Karnataka State Konkani Linguistic Minority Educational Institutions' Association, Dr K Mohan Pai and founder of 'Swarashree Art Forum,' Vasanti R Nayak will deliver commemorative addresses related to late B V Baliga.

President of Amgele Balaga Mangalore, Panambur Vithoba Bhandarkar, will preside over the programme. Editor of 'Raknno' Konkani weekly, Fr Francis Rodrigues and president of Akhil Bharathiya Konkani Parishad, Goa, Gokuldas Prabhu will speak about the work, 'Jagaran' and will hold an interaction on the same.

"Konkani activist, writer and researcher, Paul Moras will be honoured with the title, 'Konkani Itihasacho Ujwadu,'" said editor of 'Kodiyal Khabar', Mavinakurve Venkatesh Baliga in a press release.
