Mangalore: Narrow escape for rider as tipper runs over bike, hits police van

Mangalore, Aug 14: A tipper lorry ran over a bike and then hit a police van at Thokkottu junction here on Thursday August 14.

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.

Sources said that the tipper had a brake failure due to which it ran amok, going over the bike and hitting a vehicle belonging to the Karntaka State Reserve Police (KSRP).

It was a narrow escape for bike rider Ramanath Gatti (55), a resident of Kolya, who escaped unhurt.

The tipper lorry carrying mud was plying from Kuthar towards Thokottu.

Crowd gathered at the spot and traffic was disrupted for sometime.

Ullal police registered a case.

    these trucks and heavy vehicles should only move through the slow tracks and if found moving through speed tracks should be fined. or somebody should conduct some class about speed track and slow track to the drivers. its really risky overtaking them through the left side.

    speed needs to checked of buses and trucks.they have no discipline when it comes to driving on roads.99% drive in a rash way. another important thing animals on road.i dont know when this will stop.if these 2 issues are regulated then i believe driving will be ever so pleasant in our city like never before.

    Who checks the road worthiness of thousands of vehicles which puts innocent lives in danger? Seriously we need a monitoring body to "pass" the vehicles, once a year, like in other countries.
