Sunday, September 3, 2006 (Mumbai): The BCCI selection committee named a 14-man squad for Champions Trophy and also a 15-man squad for Malaysia tri-series.

The Malasyia Tri-Series begins next week and ICC Champions Trophy is to be played in India in October and November this year.

As expected the selectors retained the squad that recently visited Sri Lanka for the tri-series against Australia and the West Indies in Malaysia from September 12 to 24.

Rahul Dravid will continue as Captain and Virender Sehwag as Vice-Captain.

The 14-man squad for the Champions Trophy has been done according to the ICC guidelines.

As far as the Champions Trophy squad was concerned, S Sreesanth has been left out of the 14-man squad because the board felt that RP Singh deserved a chance.

Leg-spinner Anil Kumble, who was expected to return the one-day scheme of things until he developed a tendonitis of the shoulder during his County stint for Surrey, also did not find a place in the squad.

Ganguly left out

Sourav Ganguly was once again ignored by the national selectors who did not pick the former Indian captain in any of the squads despite naming him in the probables.

The prestigious biennial event is to be played in four centres at Mumbai, Mohali, Jaipur and Ahmedabad.

India open their campaign against England at Jaipur on October 15.

Meanwhile, Indian skipper Dravid said that the players were eagerly looking forward to tri series in Malaysia after the rain-ruined sojourn to Sri Lanka, which was finally abandoned.

"It's going to be an exciting series with three very good teams in the fray. We are all looking forward to play some cricket after the weather enforced break in Sri Lanka," Dravid said after unveiling the DLF Cup.
