Kundapur: Hit-and-run accident at Trasi - Bike rider dies

Kundapur, Aug 19: A man was killed in a hit-and-run accident on NH 66 at Trasi here on Wednesday August 19.

The deceased has been indentified as Surendra Acharya (51), a resident of Trasi and son of the late Krishna Acharya.

Acharya was riding home from Trasi junction when an unknown vehicle hit his two-wheeler. The driver of the vehicle sped away without stopping.

Acharya sustained serious injuries on the head. He was rushed to Kundapur hospital but breathed his last on the way.

Acharya was a centring contractor by profession. He leaves behind his wife, son and daughter.

Sources said that the vehicle which hit his two-wheeler was a Swift, while some others said it was Tata Ace. Investigations are on to trace the vehicle.

A case has been registered in Gangolli police station.

    It was an accident (possible due to carelessness or unavoidable situation) but the driver should not have escaped. May be the injured person could have been saved if rushed to the hospital in time.

    No doubt the culprit will be caught eventually and charged accordingly.

    Road accidents are daily occurrences and it is expedient that the police keep a strict watch on the reckless drivers.

    Here is a case of hit and run. This needs to be severely dealt with.
