Bantwal, Aug 20: The local people have opposed the action of the local municipal council to restrict the flow of traffic on the old Netravati bridge without providing an alternate route for traffic.

They have expressed their unhappiness against the local member of the municipal council who has said nothing about the decision. Now, after the resentment was made clear, chief official Lena Britto led a team that visited Panemangalore and inspected the location.

After Panemangalore bridge was constructed using the funds from the state government, the national highway authority had handed it over to the municipal council in 2011 for public use. During the last tenure of the BJP, the transport of vehicles except private and government buses was banned.

However, the present order has been blindly supported by Goodinabali ward member Iqbal and Panemangalore ward member Chanchalakshi without making arrangements for an alternate route, and the local people have shown their resentment towards this.

The locals met chief official Lena Britto and requested her to allow buses to pass through Panemangalore Byepass Kallurti Temple and ply via Akkarangadi Road to enter the market.

In this regard, engineer Prabha, revenue inspector Chennappa Gowda, inspector Radhakrishna, and other officials visited the place and assured the locals of a solution.
