Jayant Kaikini’s 'Iti Ninna Amrutha' Kannada play to be staged in Dubai

Dubai, Aug 20: Noted Kannada writer Dr Jayant Kaikini’s Kannada play 'Iti Ninna Amruta' will be staged at Nashwan Auditorium, Al Nasr Leisureland, Dubai on September 26 (Friday) at 6 pm.

'Iti Ninna Amrutha', an adoption of Javed Siddiqui's play 'Tumhari Amrita', is a love story told through the exchange of love letters spanning 35 years between two people from very different backgrounds, two people who could not come together and could not stay apart. It is a tale of the universal tragedy of lovers torn apart by destiny.

Author of this play Dr Jayant Kaikini is a household name in Karnataka. He received the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award for his first poetry collection at the age of 19 in 1974. He received the same award again in 1982, 1989 and 1996 for his short story collections. He started writing lyrics for film songs beginning from the movie 'Chigurida Kanasu'. He is credited with revolutionising the image of Kannada film songs, with the classic touch of literature and beautiful imagery. Films like 'Mungaaru Male', 'Gaalipata', 'Milana' etc have some touching and memorable songs with lyrics penned by him. He hosted the TV show "Rasa Rushige Namaskara", a biography on Rashtrakavi Kuvempu, in Etv Kannada. This show was very popular with a particular section of the audience. He continued it with other series such as "Kadala Theerada Bharghava" and so on. Lately he was seen judging the reality show "Yede Tumbi Haaduvenu" along with the legendary singer S P Balasubrahmanyam and famous Kannada music director and lyricist Nada Brahma Hamsalekha.

Javed Siddiqui is a Hindi and Urdu screenwriter, dialogue writer and playwright from India. He has written over 50 storylines, screenplays and dialogues. During his career, Siddiqui has collaborated with some of India's most prominent filmmakers, from independent directors like Satyajit Ray and Shyam Benegal to commercial directors like Yash Chopra and Subhash Ghai. He has become an integral part of Indian cinema, in both commercial and art cinema fields. Siddiqui has won two Filmfare Awards, two Star Screen Awards and one BFJA Award.

This experimental play will be directed by well-known dramatist and stage director Prakash Rao Payyar, recipient of Karnataka State Nataka Academy award for the year 2010. He has directed more than 27 plays of noted dramatists in different places of India. He directed Girish Karnad’s Kannada plays such as ‘Naga Mandala’, ‘Hayavadana’ and ‘Odakalu Bimba’ ,’Bali’ and Mohan Rakesh’s ‘Ashadada Ondu Dina’ in Dubai. Noted stage artiste Gopika Mayya and Prabhakar Kamath are in the lead roles.

    This is interesting.. I wish this attempt will be a success with packed audience. Not only his play.. i request any music lover based in dubai to come forward and organize a musical evening of songs(film) written by him. The concept is not only new but will definitely be a HUGGGGEEEE success,will be one of its kind and stand out from all major programs that will be organized in dubai.
