Mangalore, Aug 21: The District Congress Committee on Wednesday August 20 observed the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi and former Chief Minister late D Devraj Urs here at the district Congress office.

During the ceremony, MLA J R Lobo and Mayor Mahabala Maarla offered a garland to the portraits of Devraj Urs and Rajiv Gandhi.

Speaking on the occasion, J R Lobo said, "Rajiv Gandhi and Devraj Urs were the pillars of the Congress party; they were the ones who brought up Congress. Devraj Urs helped the Dalits and upheld their rights. Rajiv Gandhi is the one who laid the foundation stone for the development of India."

Mayor Mahabala Maarla praised Rajiv Gandhi and said that setting up the IT sectors and atttracting the youth was done by Rajiv Gandhi.

MLC Ivan D'Souza also spoke on the occasion.

Suresh Ballal, T K Sudhir, Padmanabha Naringana and others were also present at the ceremony.
