Mangalore: AJ Institute hosts workshop on 'Evidence Informed Dentistry'

Mangalore, Aug 21: Research has always been challenging; from writing proposals to publication. Collaboration with other universities help an institution grow both in academics and research.

In this regard, the Department of Public Health Dentistry, AJ Institute of Dental Sciences has collaborated with the University of Melbourne for a research project on 'Health of Children in Orphanages' and has received a grant for this project from the International Association for Dental Research.

As part of this, a workshop was conducted on 'Evidence Informed Dentistry' on Tuesday August 19; training and calibration sessions for the examiners involved in the project was carried out on Wednesday August 20.

The event was inaugurated on Tuesday August 19. Dr Vijaya Hegde, professor and Head of the Department of Public Health Dentistry welcomed the gathering. A J Shetty, president of Laxmi Memorial Education Trust was the chief guest. Dr Ramesh Pai, Dean of AJ Institute of Medical Sciences and Dr Y Bharath Shetty, vice president of Dental Council of India and vice principal, AJ Institute of Dental Sciences were present.

Dr Mark Gussy, Head of the Department of Dentistry and Oral Health, Latrobe Rural Health School, Australia was the resource person who provided the training and calibration for the examiners. Dr U S Krishna Nayak, Dean –Academics, AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences and vice president of Indian Society for Dental Research, Dr N Shrikumaran Nair, Head of the Department of Statistics, Manipal University, Dr Vina Vaswani, Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Director of Centre of Ethics, Yenepoya University and Dr Bradley Christian, faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, University of Melbourne, Australia were the resource persons.

Heads of the Departments and faculties of the department of Public Health Dentistry of MCODS –Mangalore and Manipal, Yenepoya Dental College, AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences and Srinivas Dental College were present.
