Bijapur: Sexual harassment at residential school; assistant cook arrested

Bijapur, Aug 21: Police have arrested the assistant cook of a residential school at Alamela on receipt of complaints of sexual harassment from female SSLC students of the school against him.

The assistant cook identified as Vijayakumar Entamana was arrested by the police on Wednesday August 20 night. The police have also registered a complaint against the residential school staff Jyothi for assisting the accused.

 

Headmaster in-charge, Satyappa Durgappa Bidari had lodged a complaint with the police; CPI Gangadhara Mata is investigating the case. Alamela trader's organization had called for Alamela bandh as a mark of protest on Thursday August 21.

It is alleged that Vijayakumar Entamana was sexually harassing the female students for the last four years. The students of the school had complained against him at child helpline in the district. Besides explaining sexual harassment in detail, the students have also requested for protection.

The students had complained to the helpline over the phone on August 15. Several students had also complained on the following day and on August 18 too. When Sunanda, the co-ordinator of the helpline visited the school and had secret discussions with the students, they disclosed rape incidents besides sexual harassment. Sunanda said that the information was conveyed to the police and the district administration.

K B Shivakumar, Chief Executive of Zilla Panchayat said that the headmaster has been asked to lodge a complaint. "The Department of Social Welfare will register a criminal complaint against the warden and the suspect," he said.

"The management of the school which is under Crest, a subsidiary under the Department of Social Welfare has been temporarily brought under the control of Sindagi BEO. The staff of the school has been asked to stay away. New cooks and teachers have been provided by the Department of Public Instruction. A team has been sent to gather details. A state level team is scheduled to visit the school on Thursday August 21," he added.

District in-charge minister M B Patil has asked the concerned to hold a high level inquiry into the incidents.

    @ fathima , as far as i know , SHARIA bestows equal rights of both men and women unlike indian secular laws where it favours only women. So if man can b uted for intimacy cases , then equally girl can b stoned for adultery or extra marital relationship. So in above case girls are liable to b punished.

    Moreover if sharia is implemented above kind of cases are very minimal ( like in most islam countries ) because it stresses on purity and early marriage , which is good.

    Wow! Is this India? Where is the moral sense,traditional values and respect for fellow humans? Rise of rapes and atrocities are the main fruits of Indian Cinemas and dirty TV serials,free flow of Internet and porn. I was amazed at a 13 year old boy who had porn clippings in his mobile, which he said he copied from his schoolmates. He told me (while counselling)that many boys and girls watch and talk on these things among friends. SHOCKING? Who is to blame? Parents! For Gods sake stop watching dirty and come out of the Idiot box (TV). Spend quality time with kids. TV serials will kill you slowly. Your future is ruined, because of your sample to your own kids. Do not preach if you can not practice it yourself. Be honest about yourself and children will learn from you and will have safe and better guidance. It's not too late people. Children are angels and innocent and they are what you make of them. I guess if we do not take serious steps, then the next generation will be full of rapists, murderers,abusers, fraudsters, violent people,liars and selfish ruthless people. Who will give a damn to our society and the well-being of mankind. Change now! Monitor all activities of your kids such as Internet, mobile and TV. Check for their friends and keep constant touch with school and friends. Do not send them alone. These days both boys and girls are vulnerable by adults, even homosexuals. I am sorry If I offend anyone with my views!

    Dear Fatima, good idea of bringing the Arabia rule in India for the culprits. But what to do for false complaints, find the solution for this. Few girls / women also punished severely, so that there are no false complaints.

    In India with this simple rule, Few girls taken as a tool to take revenge on the boys/husbands.

    Harassment since 4 years !? , very suspicious. Looks like consented relationships gone wrong or may b pure jealousy by colleagues. Also cook may be favorite among girls , so just a complaint turned everything into messy affair. It become common now a days aggressive alpha males are sent to jail just because they follow their instincts. Sad part is that courts never listen case from other angles , dictates false gospel that girl or women are always right.

    Besides advising children about the improper touching or improper behaviour,Why doesn't the Government start compulsory classes for all men and implant a more stricter law ,with a type of punishment given in public places which will make the men shiver,punishment like castration in public,cutting off his genitals or beheading like Saudi Arabia or cutting off his hands etc Once this type of punishment is passed by the Government no man will dare to rape or even look at any other woman.Come on we women join hands and compel the Government to implant this law .If all women come out on streets definitely it will be possible.Only then we can call Indian women have achieved full independence.Jai Hind.If Saudi can do it Y not India?How long will women tolerate these type of incidents,its time to come out on streets definitely one day we r going to win .

    Atrocities against women are rising in recent times even after rape,sexual harassment.In M.Pradesh,a minister in compromise position in a v.clip with male making viral in social media!!Why these inhuman acts has no control?Even Minister has no heart!! In four years that Asst Cook harassing female students sexually only now came to light!!?? School management need to be questioned.

    Well, similar incidents must be going on in many educational institutions but were not coming on the surface.

    But the powerful media's, both print and electronic, recent reporting of string of sexual abuses in the country has now helped students and parents to gain courage for reporting the sexual atrocities on their wards.

    In the wake of frequent sexual abuses being reported around the country, it would be desirable the management of all educational institutions advise all children that any improper touching or behavior by anybody in the premises be immediately reported to the teacher and their parents as well.

    Kick out this Vijayakumar Entamana, let him cook rest of his life in jail.
