Kasargod: Youth sentenced to seven years RI for rape of minor girl

Kasargod, Aug 21: Kasargod district and session court has sentenced a youth to seven years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 for raping a minor girl; failure to pay the fine will attract another five months of imprisonment.

The youth, identified as Gulzar Hussain (22), a resident of Nagon district, Assam was accused of raping a 14-year-old girl in September 2012. The girl was on her way to buy milk when the youth dragged her to a shed and raped her.

Gulzar Hussain was an employee of a company at Ennappara. The school teacher had complained to the child helpline regarding the rape. Childline workers in turn complained to Hosadurga police. Police conducted an investigation and arrested the youth.
