Sullia: Youth stealthily clicking pictures of college girls caught by public

Daijiworld Media Network – Sullia (SP)

Sullia, Aug 26: A youth from Hassan, who was allegedly clicking photographs of some college girls moving about in the area by sitting inside a bus was caught by students and members of the general public and handed over to the police personnel of Subrahmanya station.

This incident occurred on Monday August 25 at Subrahmanya bus stand.

Shettihalli Purushottam (30) from Hassan had visited Dharmasthala and Subrahmanya temples in the company of his friend from Hassan named Santosh. On Monday evening he had boarded a bus bound for Hassan at the conclusion of his pilgrimage for his return journey. It is said that he was taking photographs of girl students of a college, who were arriving at the bus stand for returning to their homes after college hours, through the window of the bus in which he was seated, by using his cell phone.

Some college students observed his act, and compelled him to get down from the bus. They checked his cell phone and found that he had clicked photographs of several girl students. Purushottam confessed to his mistake, and also apologized to the girl students offended by his act.

The police personnel of Subrahmanya station, who had arrived at the bus stand, escorted him to the police station before letting off with stern warning.

There is no law against taking photographs of any object or any person who is already visible in public. There is no consent required legally. But if the photograph is taken with wrong intention, the person can be taken to task only after ascertaining the intention with proof. Till then he is innocent. For arguments sake, when there is a crowd gathered in a place in case of accident, police case, or any matter that attracts attention, people take photos and no one can object. But if the photo is used wrongly, one can take legal action.
In this particular case no one knows the intention. But everyone is jumping to conclusion.
If one wants to use the photos for wrong intention, there are many ways of doing it. Even a photo published in news paper, photo taken during marriage function etc. can be misused.
Problem is the one-track mind of people like Lydia Lobo and many others thinking that the photo will be misused.
You can wait and see, what options the police have in such case.

If the person has a previous history of wrong doing, then only the police will be able to act. Otherwise, they will release the person may be with a warning.

The purpose of my writing this is for create awareness that an act of photography in public cannot be always treated as an offense.

If the intentions are wrong, then find a clue to prove and instead of writing sermons on morphing and other imaginary ideas. If he is guilty, he deserves to be punished.

Lydia Madam, I am very sorry if the comment hurted you so badly. I mean to say that if you are a catholic there is a rule and regulations written in BIBLE, u like it or not, U have to follow. If you forgot, pls read, please read the BIBLE. Do not attract anybody to commit a sin, If u do that u are the sinner. Mother Mary is our (especially girls) role model. If u cannot do that, what Christian life we are following. Why Christ died on the Cross for all our these sins, he will come again. Everybody has got Independence, do not misuse it.

Did you get to see the pictures of the girls whose pictures were taken?
Today girls dress modestly also are being attacked.
So should they just sit at home.

Please use your brains for a change like your body the biggest gift God has given you is the brain so use for a change and do not give stupid excuses for Mans temptation.

If not God will the same way as you Judge your brother and sisters.

    John,

Nowhere in the world do women dress like Mother Mary nor men like Jesus Christ (they to should have as per your implications for women). That does not mean that they all are sinners ? Christianity was accepted in India, keeping cultural dress code intact. There was no mention of sin over dress style all this time, from where you got the enlightenment to call those (who do not dress like Mother Mary) sinners ?

I witnessed a parish in Karnataka where the devotees vow to offer a Saree to their patroness. The statue is adorned with these offerings throughout the year and on the feast day, the garments are auctioned to raise funds for the upkeep of the Church. How do you judge these believers then ? Huh ?

Indian women cherish their national dress Sari (and men Dhoti/Jubba) irrespective of religion. Dressing style evolved to Salwar/Khamees or other style suiting to their employment environment. Does that make them any less Christian ?

Please keep your assumptions to yourself, look within you before pointing fingers at others because Jesus said, to stone a sinner only if you yourself never sinned !

This whole episode resembles to one of the filmy shot of Mardaani film recently released. If you happen to watch the film you will know exactly what happens a unknown person taking pictures of girls and stealthy passing these pictures to a gang involved in kidnapping and women trafficking. My point here is this man who happen to take pictures of girls and not aged ladies!!and that too he does not know, why he is doing? what will happen if he passes this information to the gang who are involved in women trafficking. We hear a several cases of girls and children missing everyday in the media. So the authorities must thoroughly investigate and interrogate this man, towards his motive behind taking pictures of young girls. As it is mentioned he was taking pictures of girls, since the place being bus stand there could have been also aged ladies and other boys too why he was not taking their pictures? The authorities need to check this boys back ground and his connections immediately. Also must fix him under surveillance table.

Many men and women join the pilgrimage not for religious beliefs but for their own beliefs - to make money in various ways and also to satisfy their fantasies....It's easier for them in crowded places than on a open street or with very small crowd around them.
So many boys and presently girls too visit crowded malls everyday just to have some fun there and definitely not to shop. You can guess the fun some of them want...

Hope this guy learns a lesson and takes heed of the warning from the police.

What was your reaction when it was said that it all girl's fault to have gone on that bus at night time (Nirbhaya case) or the journalist's fault to have taken the short cut through Shakti Mills ? Meaning, those girls deserved to be attacked but the men who attacked them did no wrong ?

By my labeling my view here as generalization, you are indirectly siding with those who offend. Did I anywhere say that all boys are like the one accused here ? Then that should apply to my sons too ?

Two very unfortunate news this morning, involving our young men - one the ragging incident and the other this one.

Irrelevant to whether they are proved or yet to be, genuine or fabricated, what I recall at this time is the call from our Honourable Prime Minister in his Independence Day speech.

"We restrict all rules and regulations on our daughters - have we ever taken the guts to question our sons ? "

Its time we start pondering over the social problem from both angles - not only one angle that leads to always blame the girl !

    Joseph,

No matter what your remorse against Modi is, you must accept the fact that he is the PM of the country, its him who hoisted the flag at the Red Ford on I-Day. Until he is ousted and some other person comes to power, you must swallow this bitter pill and live. The more venomous you will be, the more disgrace you bring to yourself.

However, you will not disagree to his call to all parents to restrain their sons too as they do their daughters - will you ? Because, those who abused the daughters are sons of some or the other Indian. This is our PM's view on which I too agree - irrelevant of what his personal life is !
