Mangalore: Woman rendered unconscious in bus, robbed of gold, cash worth Rs 1.4 lac

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Aug 27: A young woman travelling by Bangalore-Mangalore bus was reportedly looted of Rs 1.2 lac after being rendered unconscious with a chemical solution.

Savitri (22), a resident of Kulai was travelling from Bangalore to Mangalore on the night of August 25. When the bus reached Nelyady, all of a sudden, a person who was sitting behind Savitri covered her face with a cloth dipped in a chemical solution, and soon she lost consciousness.

By the time the bus reached Uppinangady, Savitri regained consciousness and realized that her vanity bag and the gold earrings she was wearing had gone missing. The person who was sitting behind her had also disappeared.

Savitri who was still feeling dizzy because of the chemical solution used on her fell asleep again, and after the bus reached KSRTC, she was admitted to hospital.

In her complaint, Savitri stated that there were three young men aged between 23 and 24 sitting behind her seat in the bus. They were speaking to each other in Hindi and might have robbed her after making her unconscious, she stated. Altogether, she lost cash and gold worth Rs 1.4 lac, she said in the complaint.

Every petty criminal want to hit jackpot. Once they strike big, there is no stopping, worse comes worse, 15days in judicial custody. Pay part of the ill-gotten money to overcome judicial process, then freedom. Even such people can cut ribbons in religious and social functions. Wealth can build better reputation. If police or judiciary is not friendly, then get hold of some organizations, that will protest around the town to demand quick release. Media will say they were innocent. So, it all depends on the jackpot and connections to share to gain influence. Like it or not, that is the truth.

While empathizing with the victim, this incident has many unanswered
    questions like:

    1. How could the trio suddenly introduce the chemical and then relieve her of her bag and even her ear rings, chain, etc. without anybody in the other seats not noticing (assuming the bus was not vacant)

2.Normally in a long distance bus, there is no midway halt in the nights!!

3.If one assumes the bus had halted somewhere in between on request of a passenger for answering nature's call, then too it is a standard practice to check the number of passengers back in the bus before the conductor gives the green signal to the driver to move! Why then did the conductor no lodge a police complaint at the nearest police station/check post!!

4.Very fact that these guys targeted this woman indicates that they were aware she was carrying good amount of cash/valuables on her body!

Only thorough investigations from all angles will get the 'truth' out!! Jai Hind!

Some things are not clear .. firstly there is no mention whether the bus was
packed with commuters or not. If so, the situation would have been different.
Secondly, there needs to be a shifting of the conductors seat ... like in all
ST buses, the conductors seat is ALWAYS situated on the left side of the exit
.. just diagonally parallel to the driver. Why ??? His seat should be shifted
at the rear ... to enable him have a proper view of any mischief mongers in
the bus.Partly it is his responsibility too .. he should have been pro-active
to deal with such a situation. Thirdly and most importantly ... were these 3
people armed with some type of ammunitions - no mention made. Surely NOT ALL
the passengers were asleep when this incident took place or were they watching
a tamasha .. they could at least have resorted to a physical alteration .. the
least being raised an alarm and reach out to Savitri for help. Something is
    fishy here.

It is customary on all long distance buses to switch off the lights at night (passengers demand it) and travel while sleeping.

This in itself makes it easy for the criminals who remain awake for the purpose of looking for innocent victims.

I feel that all these bus conductors and drivers should photograph all the passengers while they are seated in their respective seats once the bus is full, and then forward the same to their concerned offices for records, via whatsup etc. so that tracking criminals becomes easy.

IT IS OBSERVED NOW A DAYS LADIES ARE DARING TO TAKE ON ANY EVENTUALITY.
HAVING RS.1.40LACS WORTH AND TRAVELLING ALONE BY KSRTC BUS IS REALLY GENEIOUS.
NORMALLY WOMEN WON'T CARRY HARD CASH IN VANITY BAGS BECAUSE THEY CAN TIE IT TO INNER WEARS FOR SAFTY AND CULPRITS MUST BE KNOWING THE WOMEN/WORTH VERY WELL.
SO IT SEEMS LAPSE ON THE PART OF WOMEN FROM ALL SIDES WITH OVER CONFIDENCE OR SHOULD HAVE MADE A DEMONSTRATION OF CASH INSIDE VANITY BAG WHICH GOT VANISHED IN NO TIME.

Besides CCTV, there should be some call button (like in the Aircraft) to be used in case of an emergency or any badly needed attention by the passenger.

    “Great Bus robbery”

Unbelievable incident and unique way of robbing the passenger.

How come the fellow passengers (sitting beside or around) did not notice such act? A million dollar question.

This is a lesson for passengers to be alert while travelling long distances.
