Chennai, Aug 28 (IANS): Southern filmmaker Selvaraghavan's wife Geethanjali, who is wielding the megaphone for the first time for upcoming Tamil romantic-drama "Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam", says her husband gave her the confidence and encouragement to direct a movie.

"Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam" is a script Selvaraghavan had written and shelved a few years ago.

"I've always been interested in directing. A few months ago, Selva asked me if I would like to direct one of his older scripts. 'Maalaia...' has been one of my favourite scripts. He encouraged me a lot and made me feel confident that I can direct," Geethanjali told IANS.

The project was originally slated to go on floors with Dhanush and Andrea Jeremiah.

"We are introducing fresh faces and their names will be announced soon. We've also found a new producer. I've already started shooting for the last few days. But I can shoot at peace because Selva has decided to take a break and look after our kids," she said.
