ICYM Udupi organizes Yuva Samagama

Udupi, Aug 28: ICYM Udupi varado Yuva Samagama was held at St Vincent De Paul Church, Katapady recently. 

180 youths from seven parishes- Udupi, Kalmady, Kuntalnagar, Udyavar, Moodbelle, Perampalli and Katapady participated in the programme.

Dr G S Chandrashekar, founder of Adarsh Hospital Udupi was the chief guest. In his speech he said that youth should decide to stay in India and attain success.

He also said that they must stay away from three devils- alcohol, smoking and drugs. He added that one must respect God and parents.

Along with the varado youths, Fr Edwin D’souza, Udupi diocese ICYM director, Fr Alban Dsouza, ICYM Udupi varado director, Fr Lawrence D'Almeida, Katapady parish priest, Fr Royal Nazareth, Holy Cross Katapady director were present.

The youth were guided by Fr Chetan and Leslie Aroza on family, marriage and life. Holy mass was offered in the Katapady parish. The afternoon session was filled with inter-parish cultural programme competition based on the themes regarding Konkani wedding tradition along with baila dance.

The valedictory function was held later. Fr Edwin D’Souza, Udupi diocese ICYM director was the chief guest.

Fr Alban thanked Fr Lawrence and ICYM Katapady unit for hosting the programme and making it successful.

Henzil Fernandes, Udupi, Venisha Jenifer D’Mello, Kalmady, ex-ICYM Udupi varado president Steevan Colaco, Udyavar and Roshan Sequiera, Kuntalnagar were honoured on this occasion.

Udupi varado president Don D’Souza was honored by the central council members.

Kuntalnagar parish won the first prize and Kalmady parish secured the second place in the cultural programmes. 2013-14 best ICYM unit trophy was grabbed by Katapady parish.

Don D’souza welcomed the gathering and Samantha Annet Alva proposed the vote of thanks. Joythna Monterio compered the programme. The event was a grand success.
