Christians in Bangalore to observe Sep 14 as 'Black Sunday' against Iraq genocide

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Aug 29: A meeting of all Christian leaders on the ongoing violence in Iraq and the genocide of innocent Christians in Bangalore on Wednesday has decided to observe Friday, the September 12, as a day of 'fasting and prayer’ for the suffering Christians in Iraq and observe 'Black Sunday’ on September 14 and also a public rally.

The meeting coordinated by Federation of Karnataka Catholics and Christians Associations (FCCA) and attended by Christian leaders, priests, pastors, sisters and lay leaders held at the Paalana Bhavan, also decided to draw the attention of the State and Central Governments to condemn the genocide of Christians in Iraq.

''We also plan to organize protests in other parts of Karnataka and in other States too,” Abraham said in a media release.

Fr Jose Kumblolickal, Provincial Missionaries of St Francis de Sales (MSFS) spoke of the need to collectively take a stand immediately to demonstrate and let the world know that we the Christians in Bangalore are concerned about the happenings in Iraq against Christians, especially those Christians who have preferred to sacrifice their lives, instead of embracing Islam.

Sr Alice P T, FSI, Superior of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate (FSI), expressed solidarity and offered all the help of her community that would be required in this direction and also expressing pain about the way in which those people’s lives have been cut short for upholding the faith.

Rev Dr D Manohar Chandra Prasad (CSI) spoke of the need for the Christians the people of the Covenants to go into what is happening to the Palestinians in Israel also.

Sr Lincy Cherian, SCSC Provincial of Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross, Holy Cross Provincialate, felt that there is a need for us to also remember the sufferings our brothers and sisters in Syria, Ukraine and so on, hence along with a protest against what is happening in Iraq against Christians we need to also send out our opinion of non-acceptance of violence.

Further stated that any kind of a voice from Bangalore will be heard by the world, hence there was a need to invite the attention of world leaders, Human Rights forum and even the UNO.

She also felt that along with this we need to physically demonstrate our anguish against the happenings in Iraq.

Fr Thomas Kallukalam, representing Carmelites of Mary Immaculate, CMI, felt the need to observe a day of prayer and fasting and secondly bring all denominations together and have a march or a rally to demonstrate that we are opposed to the inhuman genocide in Iraq and also elsewhere.
Rev N J Samson, Chairman and President, Karnataka Baptist Federation, felt it was a good beginning that so many denominations have come together to discuss the action plan on Iraq.

He suggested that everyone together as a Christian body and observe a day of prayer and also an action plan to chalk out the form of protest against the persecution in Iraq.

Pastor Rev Robinson Pal, representing the Pentecostal Church felt that our protest in Bangalore, which has thousands of Churches and several Lakhs of Christians, some or most of whom have non-Christian names should let the entire Country know that we are not happy with what is happening in Iraq.

Fr Alwyn Dias, Vicar Provincial, Capuchin Province of Karnataka strongly felt “when we see violence our silence is also an equally condemnable violence and injustice against humanity, when we do not raise our voice against it”, and urged everyone to raise their voice or be ready to accept the blame that we are also a part of the violence by our silence.

Fr Jerry Kurian, Representing the Bishop of the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, spoke about the need to understand the Israel issue not just Iraq but preceding Iraq, Syria and Palestine putting it together.

He strongly felt that the problem in Iraq was caused by a “misunderstanding of Islam”, those who propagate the holocaust were unaware of true Islam.

Fr Ronnie Prabhu, PRO of the Bangalore Archdioceserepresenting the Archbishop of Bangalore, felt the need to exercise the power of meditation and communicate vehemently, others may not listen yet there would be an effect on all of them when we communicate through protests and felt that there must be a reflection of the sufferings, the pain, the anguish and the brokenness of Christians in Iraq in every church and in every community.

Fr Herald Christopher, MSFS, Principal, St Francis De Sales PU College, suggested the using of electronic media extensively and also suggested that Christians of all denominations should not only in Bangalore or Karnataka but all over.

Abraham T J explained the purpose the meeting and Rev Dr D Manohar Chandra Prasad of the CSI church, led the prayers before the commencement of the meeting.

ISIS is nothing but the 'Evil Forces' owing allegiance to the Devil, who has been set loose in the 'End Times'. It is very clear in the Holy Bible that during the end times which the last phase, Nation will be against Nation like the Russia-Ukraine War, Israel-Gaza escalation, Insurgency in Iraq, Syria, Nigeria, Sudan etc. Prophecy about spread of epidemics and so the one like 'Ebola'. Two things are left to happen, that is high density of natural calamities and spread of the Gospel to all Nation. For all Believers of Christ, it is necessary that they cling to the 'Word of God' with reverence. After all the Power of the Living God reigns supreme.

ISIS is like a deadly virus spreading like a fire. The crimes they is crime against humanity. They included "the massacre of people solely for reasons of their religious adherence" "the rable practice[s] of decapitation, crucifixion and hanging of corpses in public places" "the choice imposed on Christians and Yazidis between conversion to Islam, payment of a tax (jizya) and exodus" "the forced expulsion of tens of thousands of people, including children, old people, pregnant women and the sick" "the abduction of women and girls belonging to the Yazidi and Christian communities as war booty (sabaya)", and "the imposition of the barbaric practice of infibulation". All world is condemning their barbaric act. The group is recruiting from west and children as young as 10 years old. Some of the pictures are not of Christians but Yezdi communities, Iraqi & Syrian soldiers, because majority of the Christians fled to Erbil or Kurdish area before the deadline given by ISIS.

Here why is the Gaza issue linked to what is happening in Iraq? In Gaza the Israelis are fighting a terrorist organization (Hamas). Israel is no more fighting against the PLO that once represented the Palestinian nation. Unfortunately innocent civilians, both Muslims and Christians are being killed in the ensuing conflict. Palestinians irrespective of religion have taken refuge in mosques and churches. Whereas in Iraq the situation has gone out of control. ISIS terrorists have taken over total control in most parts of the country and they are systematically killing religious minorities consisting not only Christians, but also Yazidis and Shias. While in Gaza it may be termed a war against terrorists but in Iraq it is genocide which can be contained only through foreign intervention.

Do not let anyone deceive you in anyway, for the day will not come until the final rebellion takes place and the wicked one appears who is destined for hell. He will oppose every so called God or object of worship and will put himself above them all. He will even go in and sit down in Gods temple and claim to be God.
Yet there is something that keeps this from happening now, and you know what it is. At the proper time, the wicked one will appear. The mysterious wickedness is already at work, but what is going to happen will not happen until the one who holds it back is taken out of the way. Then the wicked one will be revealed. But the Lord Jesus comes, he will kill him with the breath and destroy him with his dazzling presence. The wicked one will come with the power of Satan and perform all kinds of false miracles and wonders, and use every kind of wicked deceit on those who will perish. They will perish because they did not welcome and love the truth so as to be saved. And so GOD SENDS THE POWER OF ERROR TO WORK IN THEM SO THAT THEY BELIEVE WHAT IS FALSE. The result is that all who have not believed the truth, but have taken pleasure in sin, will be condemned.

What is the future of Christianity In Middle East genocide In European countries most of the christian turning to Atheism. We need to introspect Christians are not helping each other in fact there is so much of jealousy within the community unlike the jain and gujratis who always help only their community we go to do favours for all others except christians and in the end are ridiculed our churches destroyed. Its high time Christians start thinking about their religion first especially Europe which is turning aways from church The Church itself has to become more vibrant and there should be more of community sharing and participation of all festivals. Most of the Christians who are now settled abroad can try to rejuvenate our culture by making the church more vibrant and also getting our youth back to the church.

    Dear Roshan Braganza,
Without any basis, it is difficult say that Western Media is biased in reporting the atrocities in IRAQ.
Christians are killed just because of their FAITH not for any wrong doing.
Even Pope also intervened in the matter, supports the media's claim.
Other matter GAZA, (I think you referred it as disputed land)
Surely killing of innocents should be condemned be in GAZA or Israel.
But the difference is, Israel saying that "Hamas" launching rocket attacks from Gaza on Israel so they Strike back.
It is war between TWO. Whereas Christians in IRAQ are JUST KILLED FOR THEIR FAITH, not doing any wrong. Lot of difference my dear.

Mr. Vivek: Your comment appreciating the work of the Christians is great. You might have studied in a Christian school or college.

Can you imagine, if the Catholic and the Missionaries of other Christian denominations like the Moravians-Lutherans-C.M.S.-LMS etc didn't come to Mangalore to establish those institutions, what would have been the situation of Mangalore now? I have traveled to some of the remote areas of north India, bordering the Himalayan Mountain. No schools and they are far away from us.

When those people who are getting medical care and education, if they are following JESUS CHRIST, how you can term that as " forced conversion"? How the people of Mangalore were forced to follow JESUS CHRIST over 150 years back, when those missionaries started the Christian Institutions? So, I have a humble request to educated people like you, not to inject the word " forced". The politicians use that as a political spade card, which is too sad.

Dr. Christy Wilson was born to Christian parents in Tabriz, Iran. In 1951 he went with his wife Betty to Afganistan as tentmakers, where they worked for 22 years.

Dr. Wilson was asked to serve as the pastor of the only one home Church in Afghanistan, the members were mainly the foreign Embassy and U.N. nation's employees. The worship was done in high secrecy.

The U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower was planning to visit India-Pakistan-Afghanistan etc, so Dr. Wilson got an idea requesting the President to make a personal request to the ruler of Afghanistan
King Zahir Shaw to allow to build a Christian Church in Afghanistan, because in Washington D.C. one Mosque was already built.

The request was granted by the King, the Church was built in 1970 but the Government of Afghanistan destroyed the Church building within three years, even though thousands of Christians appealed to the ruler of Afghanistan to stop the destruction.

One German business Mr. Mohr warned the Mayor " IF YOUR GOVERNMENT TOUCHES THAT HOUSE OF GOD, HE WILL OVERTHROW YOUR GOVERNMENT".

The Mayor sent a letter to the congregation to give the building for destruction. The Congregation responded, "we will not give the building for destruction since it doesn't belong to them but to GOD".

Soldiers, police and workmen with bulldozers were sent to destroy the building instead of opposing them, they offered them tea and cookies. On July 17, 1973, the Government completed the destruction of the building.

That very night the Afghanistan Government was overthrown in a coup.

The 227 years old monarchy became a republic under Muhammand Daoud. Five years later in 1978, he was thrown out by a communist coup and in 1979, Afghanistan was invaded by Soviet Union. Ben Ladden destroyed the country, then the U.S. bombing. One refugee said " Ever since our Government destroyed that Christian Church, GOD has been judging our Country".

Christians sacrifice their lives everywhere even in North America just because we are Christians. Our belief are so much to help others and in the bargain we lose our lives in the hands of fanatics. As Jesus thought us give everything you have and follow me that is what we are doing and end we follow our master as he wanted us to do so. Day will closer to those who torture us the heavenly king we show them a way how he himself suffering when every body of Christ-ians tortured and they may turn to him or thier families at some point and feel how wonderful to be a follower of Christ in humiliations, suffering, even losing whole life for Christ in the process to experience to show others proud moment of life being in christ and being with christ while at the last breath without even scared of dying or fearing the evil minded conversion ofevil belief who only kill innocent christ followers. My prayers and support for those who die as a martyr for christ honestly with full trust in christ who will have eternal life forever. Jesus help those who donot understand you to love you and follow your love so that all the evil will disappear and the place of Iraq or Babylon belongs to christian returned to them forever. Let the evil burn in fire and destroy them in fire so that good people live in Babylon.

Then the war in Iraq-Libya-Syria etc. The U.S., Chines and Japan's economies are slowing down again. Some of the countries of the world are heading towards bankruptcies.
