Mangalore: Vishwa Tuluvere Parba to be held in December

Mangalore, Aug 31: "People of Dakshina Kannada are blessed with resources like rivers, agricultural land and also human resource. Today, Tuluvas have achieved success in various fields, including politics," said Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shree Kshetra Dharamasthala.

He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the office for Vishwa Tuluvere Parba-2014, organized by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy and Akhila Bharatha Tulu Okutta (R) here on Sunday August 31.

"Dakshina Kannada is the centre of attraction because of its quality education. About 40% of the students in the district come from various parts of the country. Along with the educational institutions, the district has many hospitals. Tulunadu has produced experts in various fields like art, health and literature," Dr Heggade said.

He said that it was the responsibility of Tuluvas to preserve their culture and tradition. He also said that the rural areas should be developed which would in turn lead to the progress and development of the district.

"Vishwa Tuluvere Parba-2014 will be held on December 12, 13 and 14 in the premises of Sahyadri College, Adyar. Tuluvas from various Tulu organizations all over the world will be invited," he added.

MLC Ivan D'Souza said that the district representatives would discuss with the CM about including the language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

"If it is included in the Eighth Schedule, then it can be taught in schools and colleges as the third language," he added.

Mangalore city corporation mayor Mahabala Marla said that it was the responsibility of Tuluvas to preserve and promote their language.

Janaki Bramhavar, president of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy said, "Tulu is not just a language, it is a culture. Culture can unite people. I am confident that this historic event will be a success."

District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai said, "The culture and tradition of Tulunadu are unique. Love, care and respect exist in villages even today. We find Tulu speaking people from Dakshina Kannada everywhere."

"Language helps in building social harmony. Tuluvas should strive to uphold harmony in the society," he added.

Ramanath Rai unveiled the emblem of Vishwa Tuluvere Parba-2014. Dr Heggade launched the website of the event.

State minister for health U T Khadar, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Thonse Jayakrishna A Shetty, Dharmapal U Devadiga, president of Akhila Bharatha Tulu Okutta(R), A C Bhandary, B Damodar Nisarga, Daya Kirodian, Dubai and others were present.

    It is a good step forward. The most important step is to have a separate Tulu Nadu state. Although Tuluvas and konkanas are forward thinking, well educated and highly cultured people, power, resources are in the hands of the outsiders.
