Madikeri, Sep 2: A youth killed his own elder brother by hitting his head with an iron pipe at Kenchati near Suntikoppa in Kodagu district on the night of Sunday August 31. Harish (34), working for a coffee planter named Dr Ravi Appaji, killed his elder brother Anand (35) in the labour quarters located within the Kumboor Plantation.

Anand had visited his younger brother on Sunday evening along with his wife and children. When Anand was watching a television programme after dinner, Harish hit his head with an iron pipe from behind. Anand suffered critical injuries and died on the spot.

It is learnt that Anand had butchered his own father in 2010 with a sickle for a silly reason. However, he had been released recently, as the prosecution failed to conclusively prove his crime. Harish, it is said, was alerted by a few known persons that Anand had bragged with some of his friends that he had been planning to eliminate Harish. Out of fear of losing life, Harish decided to strike first, it is learnt.

Kushalnagar police circle inspector, Sandesh Kumar and Suntikoppa station house officer, Suresh Kumar rushed to the spot and arrested Harish. Somwarpet Deputy Superintendent of Police, Nagappa also visited the spot. Postmortem was conducted at the primary health centre, after which the body was handed over to the family. The deceased is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.
