Karkala, Sep 2: A fight erupted between two neighbours over the death of a cock raised for cockfight leading to attempted murder of a young girl at Ajekar Shirlalu Hadiyangadi in Hosabettu on Tuesday September 2.

The young girl is identified as a student Suprima Shetty pursuing her nursing in Moodbidri. She was seriously injured in the melee and has been admitted to Manipal Kasturba hospital for treatment.

The accused neighbours Pradeep Shetty(28) and his father Krishna Shetty (52) were arrested and produced before Karkal court by Ajekar police.

The cock had died on Monday, Sep 1 and it was suspected that Sudhir Shetty had poisoned it. This triggered the fight between them.

In a fit of rage, the accused Pradeep illegally entered the house of Sudhir holding a knife and assaulted Sundhir’s elder sister Suprima Shetty.

It is said that Pradeep Shetty's father Krishna Shetty had encouraged the son for the incident.

A criminal case has been registered in Ajekar police station in this regard.
