Udupi, Sep 3: After five days of prayer and worship, the idol of Lord Ganesha installed by the Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava Samiti for the 32nd year at Brahmavar was taken for immersion in a grand procession here on Tuesday, September 2.

The procession started from the Government Primary School, Brahmavar and made its way past the old bus stand, police station, main bus stand and culminated at the Mahalingeshwar temple lake. A colourful display of fireworks at Gandhi Maidan during the procession enthralled the crowds.

Thousands of devotees joined in the procession and witnessed the immersion of the deity’s idol in the temple lake.

Vaman Pai of 'Kuniyo Ganapa' was a special attraction of the programme.

Many took part in various competitions held during the course of the festivities. Pili Vesha dance entertained the crowds, with performers enthralling one and all with superb acrobatic skills.

People are in full swing enjoying the various traditional acts on this auspicious day.

No doubt the Phili vesha performers with superb acrobatic skills are the modern and well trained guys.

I used to pass hours together watching Phili Vesha (in 60’s)and following them place to place watching different skills (picking a pin , collecting a note etc. –Phili Muthappa from Marnamikatte with big belly used to be the main attraction )
