Kuwait: Gulf Voice of Mangalore Season 4 semi-finals on Sep 19

Kuwait, Sep 7: After the stupendous success of three seasons of 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore' - a mega Konkani singing talent hunt show, Youth Recreation Center- Kuwait is all geared up to host the semi-finals of GVOM Season 4 on Friday September 19 at the American International School auditorium from 5 pm onwards. One male and one female finalist from Kuwait will be selected on this day and they will be participating in the grand finale to be held in Muscat-Oman, on November 7 for the coveted title of GVOM-4.

Youth Recreation Centre (Rising Stars) is one of the popular and oldest sports clubs in Kuwait and has completed 36 successful years of its existence. ‘YRC’ is registered with Kuwait Indian Football Federation and also with the Indian Embassy in Kuwait.

 

Konkani music field’s noted personalities Adrian Gomes, Anitha D'Souza and Prashanth Raj will be the judges for the event. Dubai's popular emcee, singer, stage artiste and GVOM Season 1 runner-up Dony Correa will be compering the event.

After the competition visiting artistes Anitha D'Souza and Prashanth Raj along with previous GVOM Orson D'Souza and Gladys Lorena will entertain the audience with songs. Rib-tickling comedy by Kuwait's popular stage artistes Stephen Machado, Anil Menezes, Renny Menezes, Lucy Aranha and Rajesh Fernandes on jokes written by writer/ poet/ stage artiste Lancy Rodrigues is bound to create a riot of laughter. Scintillating dances by Desi Strikers who are popular for their theme dances and 7 piece live music by Kuwait's famous Konkani musicians under the leadership of Kiran Gonsalves will be the special attractions of the day.

Started in 2008, Konkani singing talent hunt show Gulf Voice of Mangalore is the biggest Konkani reality show in the Middle East. The main aim of this competition is to bring out hidden singing talents and give them a platform to prove themselves. GVOM Season 1 in Kuwait, Season 2 in Dubai and Season 3 in Qatar created sensation among Mangaloreans worldwide. Kuwait's talents have previously won the titles in all three seasons of GVOM. Vinay Lewis (Season 1), Gladys Lorenha (Season 2), Warren D’Souza (Season 2 male runner-up) and Orson D'Souza (Season 3) have made Kuwait proud.

About the judges

 

Adrian Gomes

Born on September 2, Adrian Gomes is a BE graduate in electronics and communication along with diploma in telecommunication engineering. He started his music carrier by learning accordion from Fr Albuqerque at Fathima Retreat House. Later he mastered instruments like organ, guitar, drums and Trumpet. He has played trumpet and drums for Kalakaar and Toofaan Orchestra in Bombay, Ashok Charan Orchestra Konkani Musical Nites of Claud D’souza and Eric Ozario and in various Konkani cassettes in Mangalore. He has composed music and played keyboard, trumpet, accordian and harmonica for Konkani songs, Hindi and Bengali albums in Kuwait and released three Konkani instrumental audio cassettes named “A Tribute to the Konkani Composers” and the 4th CD is the set to be released.

Adrian has played for most of the Konkani, Tulu, Kannada, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi shows in Kuwait and also in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bahrain and Qatar. He has been leading the orchestra and performing for several Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil Playback singers namely Dr P Susheela, Mano, Anuradha Sriram, Srinivasan, Vasundara Das, Biju Narayan, music director Deva, Harini, Unni Menon, Min Mini and several others visiting Kuwait.

He has also organized shows, conducted orchestra and played instruments for Konkani Nites of Wilfy Rebimbus, Henry D’souza, Melwyn Peris, Claud D’souza and Wilson Olivera. He has beenbestowed with the titles “Sangeeth Vazanthran Shilpi” and “Konkan Tansen” by USWAS-Dubai and Kuwait Konkans. Adrian is popularly known as AR Rehman of Konkani for his expertise in the music field.

 

Dr Prashanth Raj

Having studied medicine at Govt Medical College, Bellary, Dr Prashanth Raj is a medical practitioner at Vamanjoor. He is trained in Hindustani vocals and sung in more than 100 albums of hymns and songs in Konkani and Kannada. He has also co-produced one hymn album. He has composed all songs for the album 'Thujya Gharanth' and sung two hits in the movie 'Padri'.

As a student, he has taken part in many inter-school, inter-collegiate singing competitions at state andnational levels and won the first place in solo singing in three consecutive years in inter-parish singing competitions. He has given shows in India, Bahrain, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and has been awarded by Konkani Kutamb Bahrain and Famad Pernal Dubai. He has also done judging for GVOM Season 3 semi-finals in Dubai.

 

Anitha D'Souza

Hailing from Bela, Kasargod, Anitha D'Souza is a young trained singer with a diploma and a degree in dance (Bharatanatyam) and music from Sandesha College of Fine Arts, Mangalore. She is also a post graduate from Mysore University. She has done playback singing for Kannada and Konkani movies. Apart from performing around 2,000 musical shows in India, she has also performed in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Doha, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar. Anitha has rendered her voice for over 200 devotional and 500 film, telefilms and drama audio/video albums comprising Hindi, English, Kannada, Tulu, Konkani, Beary, Tamil and Malayalam songs. She has also sung with almost all the Popular and World Famous Konkani Singers like Konkan Kogul Wilfy Rebimbus, Yodeling King Melwyn Peris, Mandd Sobhann gurkar Eric Ozario, Claud D'Souza, and Henry D'Souza of Katrina song fame.

She was honoured with the titles 'Kala Tilaka' (by the Kerala government) at the age of 4, 'Tulunada Gaana Kogile' and 'Vishwa Gadinada Rani Kogile' title in 2011. She also conducts music classes for her talented students of all ages and also gives opportunity to deserving students to perform in her shows. Her biggest dream is to open a school of music and dance.

 



Dony Correa (compere)

Born in Pernal, Roshan Donald Correa is an enthusiastic theatre artiste with a vivid experience in acting, singing and compering. From college days he has shown leadership by being college students' leader, president of student's union, and president of AICUF, Famad Pernal, ICYM and vice-convener of Daiji Rang Mandir. He has acted in more than 20 Konkani, 14 Tulu, 5 Kannada dramas and 2 Yakshagana prasangas.

As a singer he has performed in several stage musical concerts in Konkani / Kannada / Tulu and Hindi. He has also rendered voice for three Konkani musical albums and won UAE-level singing competition. He is the first runner of Gulf Voice of Mangalore's first season in 2008. He has compered more than 30 shows in Konkani and Tulu and received ‘Best Emcee’ award by St Mary’s Konkani Community, Dubai.
