Mangalore: Nursing student tied to tree, robbed by masked men

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Sep 12: A nursing student was tied to a tree and robbed by masked men after being rendered unconscious near Bottikere in Moodushedde in the outskirts of the city on the morning of Thursday September 11. It is also suspected that the men tried to rape her.

The girl in question pursues nursing course in a city-based college. At about 7 am on Thursday, she was walking towards Moodushedde from her house in Kudru near Adyapady. It is learnt that the student had forgotten to bring her hall ticket for appearing for the examination that was to be held on Thursday. She therefore was going back to her home in a hurry to bring the hall ticket, when two masked men stopped her in a desolate area. They forcibly took away a golden chain found in her neck, apart from cell phone and cash from her purse.

No one had noticed the incident, as no one lives around the area and none passed by at that time. The student continued to be tied up to the tree till evening. A person, who was walking by that way at around 7 pm, heard the lady's shouts for help. He then went towards the source of voice and found the girl having been tied up to a tree.

The man then gave information to the locals and Kavoor police. A police team lead by Kavoor sub-inspector visited the spot, made inquiries, and took the girl to the police station. Whether the girl was raped or not will be confirmed only after the medical examination report is received, police said.

In the statement given to the police, the student revealed that the assailants had sprayed some chemicals to her face whereupon she fell unconscious. She was then tied to the tree by using the veil of her churidar. She said she had seen a mole in the hand of one of the men. The police personnel have launched an operation to find out the culprits on the basis of information they have gathered from the girl.

This is horrible. Costal Karnataka was considered to be a very peaceful place with people having a lot of respect for women. This must be condemned. My suggestion is that youths should form a groups in their particular area and see to it that such illegal and unsocial acts never happens. It is the duty of every citizen of this country to protect and stand for the women.

Crime has been on the increase but this is a novel way of robbing an unsuspecting young lady. The perpetuaters of this kind of crime should all means be nabbed and put behind bars before filing criminal charges in Court. With the efficient police force that we have in Mangalore and the district under the guidance of Mr. Hitendra and Dr. Sharanappa, it is just a question of time before the culprits are caught and remanded. Hope the hand of law comes down heavily on these people who have lost all sense of decency.

The mole that the victim had noticed on the hand of one of the assailants could be an artificial one, just to hoodwink/mislead the cops.
