Mangalore, Sep 15: "On October 25, the District Health and Family Welfare Society will launch the 'National Urban Health Campaign'. I want to make Mangalore city the healthiest city in India, along with Ullal constituency, Bagalkot, Bangalore and Mysore cities," said minister for health and family welfare U T Khadar.

Addressing the media at the zilla panchayat hall here on Monday September 15, Khadar said, "On October 25, 'National Urban Health Campaign' as well as health booths and mobile units will be launched. Five health booths will open in Mangalore and four in Ullal. These booths will mainly cater to the health needs of labourers. Health booths will be installed wherever there is a large demand. Jyothi Nagar, Pachanady, State Bank, and Bunder areas are the main targets for now.

"Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) will be present in these booths. Ten primary health centres (PHC) will be opened, among which some would be upgrades of exising PHCs. The new PHCs will open in Kunjathbail, Shakthinagar, Neereshwalya, Padil, Bejai and Yekkur. PHCs in Suratkal, Kulai, Bengre and Jeppu are upgraded. The local MLA or corporators will look after the PHCs, and one woman SC/ST representative and one representative from an NGO will work in each of the PHCs," he explained.

To keep malaria at bay in Mangalore, U T Khadar mooted the idea of organizing a 'Health Day' each week. "Day by day malaria is becoming a threat to everyone. On Health Day everyone should clear the stock water which has been stangnant for more than a week. Everyone's participation is required. We will convene a meeting to discuss more about Health Day and spread awareness."

Answering questions from the media, Khadar said that the National Urban Health Campaign is a five-year plan. "Next year our plan is to include 12 more cities and make them the healthiest cities. In the next five years we want to include all the cities."

On initiating a few programmes during Dasara festival in Mysore, Khadar said, "Dasara is nearing and I want to initiate a few programmes. During the Dasara festive season, in Mysore, yoga classes will be organised for government hostel students, and also held in 45 select hotels."

Mayor Mahabala Maarla, Deputy Mayor Kavitha, MLA J R Lobo, ZP CEO Tulasi Maddineni, A C Renuka Prasad, KAS, district officer, Backward Class Development Board and others were also present.

Invitation from WHO

U T Khadar has received an invitation from World Health Organization (WHO) to deliver a talk on the 'Implementation of medical schemes and problems', in Cape Town, South Africa in a programme held from September 28 to October 2. WHO every year calls representatives from each country and this time, U T Khadar has been selected to represent India.

Flavian,Kuwait, for your kind thought, let me tell you that this Property is like Fatherless Child.(Appa illatha magoo). Nobody knows who the real owner is. There are many Properties in Mangalore which are lying idle as Nuisance to surrounding families. I have caught 2 pythons and a Cobra from this property and gave to Pilikula. They were Thankful.
Occupants of Property cook the Biryani.
A message to Mr.Indian,in Mangalore got news for you. Minister only made to remove the garbage but I made the MCC to remove the Steel Rods sticking out nearby, which were life threatening to Public. I am sure this Minister is travelling throughout Mangalore City. How many Garbage piles He has noticed and removed. On Kankanady-Jeppu Road,Opposite Fr.Muller's Hospital, near hospital quarters there is such a big garbage pile He did not notice. In Nanthoor,on way to Circuit House, near Cochin Bakery stands a mini Moodushedde dump which none of the Ministers noticed except Me. I met Mr Ibrahim,DC of Mangalore and gave Him the Photos of the scene. He has promised to Clean it. So also I have given a set to Mr M.Marla,Mayor of Mangalore. Many Ministers are representing India in name of study tours but learn nothing but enjoy life.

U T Khader simply talks. what health he intends to provide through these booths remains to be seen. For providing health an individual must have some knowledge of disease. Instead he should try to improve the sanitation and hygiene in and around Mangalore.

    Improve the
    "Sanitation and Hygene around..."

A Minister can not single handedly do that.
That needs local peoples participation and assistance by following rules laid down by Government.
Will you please start giving that helping hand to the authorities?
This will become better and better every day in every aspect of life.

    Joe D'Souza,

I am so surprised to hear all such things being happening in the heart of the city.
Is it a haunted house? Are there no occupants?

This minister is the best among all the subordinate cabinet minister in current government. One day i was at PVS near VRL office to board a bus, Minister gets down from his official car and saw the place was filled with litter and within 15 minute the place was cleared of all litter. first i thought he may be some corporator but later got to know that he is the present Health Minister of Karnataka. My Respect to you, may God make all ministers to be working like him. I HAVE NO SURPRISE WITH OUR MINISTER REPRESENTING INDIA TO DELIVER A TALK IN SOUTH AFRICA ON AN INVITATION FROM WHO(World Health Organization)

Wow sir.. Keep up the good work..

    Kind request note:
Mr Khader, before you open Health centers,PLEASE clean A property in Kadri(You know which and who Owns it) Many around are staying inside due to illness from mosquitoes. From last 8 years We,from surrounding Residence suffer the Health Hazard. Even the Wells next to property gone poison because of drain water collecting on land. Our request to clean goes to Deaf Ears. MCC Health Officials playing hide and seek game. Weeds and wild bushes are growing not only on ground but also spreading to houses next door where little Children live. Their roof looks like green house. Huge trees spread the mess of dry leaves to next surrounding properties. College bus drivers urinate and throw garbage and wash buses. All kinds of snakes including Cobras are breed, along with stray dogs. Mosquitoes can be harvested for fish farms.
If Mangalore remains clean then more clinics not neede unless some special interest groups want to make money.

Key factors For Mangalore are Proper roads, Drainage net work
and hygienic toilets(pay & use toilets are best concept). If these basics are met then no malaria no disease. Just PHC will not solve the issues it is mere waste of public funds. PHC are urgently reqied at village level. We have enough hospitals to handle any situation, what we need is unified planned urban development. Khadar must direct his team towards infrastructure & cleanliness!

It is useless praising or blaming the ever active Health Minister, unless and until people co-operate with what he has directed and understand that it is for their own good health.
If you follow that, every one will be doing a great service to self and give satisfaction to the one who schemed all that.
Public participation is very important and very necessary for any Government scheme to succeed.
Health Minister has always said he is open to suggestions\ideas from the public.....

One of the key changes required is to give nurses an opportunity to become doctors . Nurses with 5 plus year of experience should be allowed to become doctors if they pass few exams. There is a severe shortage of doctors in the rural areas and this will keep increasing because doctors in cities can make a huge income compared to rural folks
