Bangalore, Sep 15: The process of converting all the Lambani tandas in Karantaka into revenue villages and providing them with infrastructure facilities is underway, said Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya on Sunday.

He was delivering the valedictory address of the State-level tribal women’s awareness camp organized by the Karnataka Pradesh Banjara (Lambani) Seva Sangh.

The minister said the Siddaramaiah government is implementing various programmes for the comprehensive development of Lambani tandas in the State and has earmarked sufficient funds.

Anjaneya said the government planned to provide necessary training for the women and other skilled workers of the Lambani community to manufacture the traditional dresses and costumes of the Lambanis as the traditional dresses and ornaments of the Lambani community were gradually vanishing.

The incomplete Banjara Bhavan being constructed by the Karnataka State Banjara Corporation would be completed soon, he said pointing out that officials have been directed to expedite the construction work.

The Sevalal temple and Mutt at Honnali has been sanctioned a sum of Rs 2 crore for developmental works. 'More funds will be sanctioned if needed,” he promised.

He said the State Government was keen to prevent migration of the Banjara community by providing them sites and land. ''If sufficient government lands were not available, we will buy private lands to help the Banjara community,” he said.

Former minister B T Lalitha Naik, Davangere City Corporation Mayor Renukabai, chief minister’s private secretary Heera Naik and Sumangali Sevashram President S G Susheelamma were the other prominent dignitaries who attended the programme.
