Puttur, Sep 17: A team of the criminal investigation department (CID) from Bangalore arrived in the town and began its probe in suicide case of Shyamprasad Shastri from Badekkila in Kedila village.

Shastri was reportedly under tension over the dispute involving the spiritual head of Ramachandrapur Math. His brother Diwakar Shastri had shot himself with a country made gun recently.

The CID team, headed by deputy superintendents of police, Ashok Kumar and Chandrashekhar, is being guided by superintendent of police, Sri Gowri. The team, which took over all the documents related to the case, visited Shastri's house in Badekkila on September 15 and recorded statements of Shastri's wife, son and some relatives, it is gathered.

The team is keeping the outcome of its investigations closed and the police station personnel accompanying the team are being kept away from questioning sessions. The team is trying to come to a conclusion about the reason for which Shastri had committed suicide.

Some claim he was threatened by people close to the Math whereas others say he was loyal to the Swamiji and was threatened by people from his brother's side.
