Bantwal, Sep 20: Seven-eight members of a community reportedly stopped a pickup vehicle transporting stolen cattle to a buchery in Mangalore. The vehicle was plying from Vagga to B C Road at 8.30 pm on Thursday September 18.

On receipt of information, the complainants were lodged with the police. On reaching near Thumbya junction, in Kasaba grama, they saw that the people have intercepted the vehicle and a bike parked beside it. Few people had also gathered at the spot.

The people fled from the spot as soon as the police arrived. A person named Ivan D' Souza was sitting in the driver's seat. It is said that Thaslim, Basheer and Ashok who had fled, stole cattle tied near Vagga and illegally transported them to Mangalore.

It is said that there were two cows and three calves. The pick up with the registration number KA 19
D 6281 and motorcycle with the registration number KA 19 EF 6323 have been seized by the police.
The total value of the seized property is said to be Rs 3,36,300.

The counter complaint by Prashanth, Thilakraj, Umesh and others states that Thaslim, Bashir and Ashok had bought cattle from different houses and were transporting them in a pick up vehicle from Vagga to B C Road. As their vehicle reached Thumbya junction, some came on a motorcycle and few others said to be Hindus, intercepted the vehicle and abused them with indecent words and threatened to break their hands and legs and even kill them.

It is also said that those in the pick up were born to Christian Bearys and transporting cattle was their only profession. It is said that they have insulted the Christian religion also.
