Udupi: Moral policing at Kaup beach - Four arrested

Udupi, Sep 24: In a case of moral policing, Kaup police have arrested four youths from Padu in Kaup on charges of assaulting a boy and a minor girl at Kaup beach.

The arrested youth have been identified as Suman Suvarna, Sudhir Suvarna , Preetham Kotian and Hitesh. They allegedly assaulted the boy and the girl on learning that they belonged to different religions.

It is said that after the incident of the alleged assault transpired, the accused circulated videos of the assault in the social media. Only after this news started spreading like wildfire, the father of one of the victims complained to the police. As per reports, the girl is a minor.

Meanwhile, another girl came to lodge a complaint against the youth from a Shirva college for allegedly misbehaving with her. A chaos erupted after a group protested at Kaup police station on charges that police took time to register her complaint. The complainant claimed that the said incident occurred during the Kaup beach assault.

The group demanded that the arrested youths should be released based on the complaint lodged by the girl, and that the boy be arrested instead. Former MLA Lalaji Mendon, VHP president Suprasad Shetty visited the police station to pacify the protestors.

The police have registered the case and promised that the boy would be arrested soon.

I feel, it is prudent on part of the members of moral policing teams to take immediate steps to counsel girls of their own community (if they feel they are vulnerable). Taking law into their own hand is some what extreme steps (not falling short to call them as terrorists)
I really doubt terrorism is the solution to uphold the one's own Cultural identity.
Today these moral policing guys show their anger against other community members, but being a human such mentality slowly but surely extend killing their own family/community peace and social harmony.

Let Government create AMPS ( Anti Moral Policing Squad) to local police can concentrate on other crimes.The representation of AMPS should be in ratio of Hindu-80%, Muslim 14%, Christian 2.5%, Sikh-2% and rest 1.5% .
