Mangalore: Prepaid auto rickshaw counters from Kankanady railway station to start soon

Mangalore, Sep 24: The district administration has decided to introduce prepaid auto rickshaw counters service very soon at Mangalore junction railway station popularly known Kankanady railway station.

The counters were installed long time back but they were not officially opened and services were not provided as promised. People were anxiously waiting for the service as the auto service in the area was not properly organised. The auto drivers either overcharged the passengers or refused to go to farther places. Now the district administration has responded to the needs of the railway passengers.

Meanwhile Regional Transport Authority has sought quotations from interested parties who can offer service facilities from these counters. The counters have to be open throughout the day and night without any break and the amount charged as service charge should be Re 1 only. The auto charges from the station should not exceed the fare specified by the transport authority.

The same type of service at the Mangalore central station has been a success.

    Mangalore Central Pre Paid Auto. Charged 1.5 time higher than meter. I took prepaid auto Mangalore Central to Landlinks. Auto driver charged 1.5 times actual meter reading. I asked him,he said in receipt mentioned 1.5times. This is complete illigal. Authority has to take action.

    This is indeed is a boon to passengers arriving from all directions at the Kankanady Railway station. They will no more be at the mercy of the transporters.

    Pre paid Auto . pre paid Taxi stand ,, this has been tried several times at various times at the Railway station as well as KSRTC ... Result is TOTAL FAILURE .. another exercise in futility as there is none to implement this - Police are hand in glove with thr auto / taxi chaps and we the paying public are so dog tired after a tiring and uncomfortable journey that neither do we have the patience nor the inclination to bargain with these unscrupulous goondas.The pre paid receipt / token is not worth the paper it is printed upon as the moment these drivers leave the stand we are at their mercy.

    Its a great menace to get rid off. Rickshaw drivers were looting passengers with fixed huge fares from Rs 250 to Rs 500 for short distances and when confronted they were all becoming one and mocking and would not reduce fares thus looting.

    Good move. We needed it badly.
    It should be from KSRTC bus stand, Both Railway stations & from Airport.
    Non abiding auto drivers must be fined on the spot.
    There is too much goondaism from these drivers

    Start KSRTC City Bus Service to Mangalore Central as well as Mangalore Junction at frequent intervals. These Auto Looters will come to terms. Otherwise these Auto Drivers mafia will not allow Prepaid counter to function properly.

    The last sentence is wrong.prepaid counter in central station is not open all the time.Mnay autos wont come to the stand when it is open.They will stop a little away from the stand so that they can choose their customers as they like.A notice board should be kept in railway station indicating that auto driver has to pay rs 500 to a passenger if he wants to refuse a trip.

    1) proper behave with customers 2) no reasons telling when stoped, (I am not going to tht route.) 3) shud charge 1/5 from 11.30 tp 5.30 by rules4) pactually 1/5 is from 11.pmto 5.30am by rules..5) proper parking in waiting stand.. example in arya samaj road they shud not exceed 6 auto parking. .,,but they park beyond the limit and create traffic inconvenience...

    This is really good news for people visiting Mangalore. Hope RTO sees that this arrangement is strictly implemented. Arrangement at Mangalore Central is not working at the moment and the passengers are fleeced by rickshaw operators.

    Mr. Ravi Shenava, Every government job is same. Work cultures are different for private and government. Only difference is you lose job in private if you do not work!
    Look at Air India Express online ticket booking is out of order for nearly two months. No one wants to fix it! In the mean time you can book online tickets with travel agents and private sites for an extra fee!! I guess there is big opportunity in government job for side income without fearing public opposition and inconvenience to common man! If these small problems are fixed.. India will be a developed country sooner!!

    Don't ridicule the national carrier like this...I still feel you & others still line up for IEX for visits abroad due to low fares & no hidden charges unlike others

    from central to lalbagh they are asking 100 rs, wont come for short distances

    Now prepaid Auto rickshaw counter is there in Central Rly Station and even from Bejai KSRTC there is Prepaid Auto Counter. But has one one seen them working ? You will always find them closed.

    The authorities also should take into action regarding the minimum charges by the auto rickshaw drivers. In Mumbai minimum(distance) auto rickshaw fare is Rs12/- here in Mangalore Rs25/- See the difference!!! Fuel prices are the same...Why this loot???
