Beltangady: Leopard caught in trap rescued; released into forest

Beltangady, Sep 26: A ten-year-old leopard was caught in a snare set for wild boars in Kundadka, near Jarigebailu in Machina village on Friday September 26 morining.

The incident took place in the field belonging to Sundara Poojary. Several locals had also gathered at the spot.

As per request of the forest department, a rescue team from Pilikula Biological Park headed by a scientific officer and a veterinary doctor along with staff reached the spot, rescued the leopard and treated it.

Soon after the treatment, the animal was released in the forest area of Charmadi, where there is no human popluation.

    In spite all the problems in our country, I think we overall do a good job in trying to protect our animals... If it was China, this Leopard would have been on some dinner table!

    What a pity if the leopard is left at a place where it cannot find its necessary food...???

    People of Karnataka have destroyed its natural habitat, and such it should have been left near the house of Ramanath Rai the forest minister, who is still in a deep slumber since last election!
