Bangalore, Sep 26: The Siddaramaiah regime on Friday sought to help the aspirants for the posts in Karnataka Administrative Service while deciding to increase the upper age limit as also the number of maximum attempts while asking the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) to make fresh recruitments for 452 Group A and B posts of probationers, which have been recently notified for recruitment.

The State Cabinet meeting presided over by chief minister Siddaramaiah also decided to implement the PC Hota Committee report on the reforms in syllabus and examination pattern in the selection process, to ensure transparency.

The upper age limit for General Merit students would be enhanced from the present 35 years to 37, for OBCs from the present 38 years to 40 years and for SC/ST candidates 40 years to 42 years.

Briefing reporters after the State Cabinet meeting, Karnataka’s Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister TB Jayachandra said the number of maximum number of attempts for General Merit candidates would be increased to 7 from the present 5, for OBCs the number of maximum attempts would be raised to 9 from the present 7 and there is no bar on number of attempts for SC/ST candidates.

The Rule 6 of KPSC Act would be amended to ensure the increase in the maximum number of attempts, the minister said.

The cabinet also authorised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to select a suitable candidate for the post of KPSC chairman and 5 official members and 3 non official members.

A grant of Rs 750 crore was approved for all round development of 1000 villages scattered in 186 rural assembly constituencies under the GramaVikasa programme.

The programme envisages to provide safe drinking water, concrete roads, health centre and all other amenities in these villages, Jayachandra said.

The State Cabinet also decided to declare 34 taluks in 9 districts as drought hit; approved grant of Rs 7.78 crore for building a district police complex at Yadgir in Gulbarga district and sanctioned compensation of Rs 88.11 crore to the S V Global Mills Ltd for acquiring its 3.16 acre of land for constructing the Okalipuram junction.
