Puttur, Sep 28: A couple who were promised gold at half the price have been cheated.

The couple, Mohan and his wife Pushpa from Haradi, Puttur are the victims. The culprit who introduced himself as Ramesh is yet to be arrested. It is not known if that is his real name. The said incident transpired at Nyamathi of Shimoga district.

The couple own a small hotel at Haradi and had been interacting with Ramesh for the past six months. Ramesh, who introduced himself as a chilly dealer from Shimoga always ate at the couple’s hotel whenever he visited Puttur. He talked nicely and won the hearts of the couple. The friendship became so thick that the couple even revealed their financial status to Ramesh.

Ramesh phoned the couple recently to say that he had some gold which he could sell to them for half the price. He told them that the deal will give them some relief from their financial woes. The couple, who had blindly trusted Ramesh, hired a car to go to Nyamathi in Shimoga district. They took a goldsmith along with them to test the gold.

Ramesh was waiting for them in a field. The gold was shown and tested. The goldsmith gave the certificate that the gold was authentic. The couple went back to the car, took out the Rs 2,00,000 cash and gave it to Ramesh and then headed to their home with the packet containing gold.

On the way, when they opened the packet, they realized that they were carrying fake gold. Ramesh had exchanged the gold when couple turned to the car to bring cash. They returned to Nyamathi to get back at Ramesh. What the couple had was only a photograph of Ramesh taken in a mobile phone. The Nyamathi villagers said that such person did not live there. The couple returned home after failing to find Ramesh in the surrounding areas as well.

They were told to go back to the place where they were cheated and lodge a complaint. Ratnakar Prabhu, a local from Puttur has volunteered to take the couple to Shimoga.

Meanwhile Ramesh has switched off both his mobile phones. The search for him will begin soon.

The couple should have thought bit further that noone has anything to give Gold first at half Price, second not at when one is having financial Need. And why should he go to field to bring Money ?he could have brought at the Hotel and to his house,or Goldsmiths place.Of course they had hidden artificial Gold in the bush. This Business is like some offer car at half Price but bring from England and foreign countrys and Need Money for it.At the end no car no Money, person also is missing. Our People get mad when one says ,Gold, land at half Price. In kannada we say Ati aashe gathikedu.

There is similar laptop switch scam in western countries. May this the same technique is used by this person. In the laptop switch scam someone comes in a car and look for unsuspecting victims in the street. He will show the victim a hi config laptop and says he will give it for half price due to some urgent money need (shows the original receipt and price along with laptop). When the buyer is ready to buy he will divert buyer's attention for a moment and then swaps the laptop bag which looks exactly same to buyer. When buyer goes home and open the bag he will find only potatoes inside the bag.

All those valuable gifts like gift of gab, to convince, body language, confidence, wiliness and many of them their bodily attraction -mostly Swamijis, Bapus, Rishis, Priests, they have in them as they master these things to con their followers or those who come for their guidance.
Honey oozes when they talk and the innocent bees fall into it like ten pins....
It is an art and it is not so easy to master. One who is into it should know how to wiggle out of many problems too. Mostly it takes time to establish themselves like this person but he made it in the end with 2 lacs plus the gold too.
