Lightning, thunder disrupt coastal life, claim two lives at Puttur

Moodbidri/Udupi / Puttur, Sep 29: After the rain havoc in Bangalore and other parts of Karnataka in the past week, Heavy rains with lightning and thunder have been reported from all parts of undivided Dakshina Kannada on Sunday.
In a lightening accident two people have lost life at Kumbra near Puttur.

The deceased have been identified as Kariya (68) and Koragu(65).

The deceased were part of a team which was working in a cashew estate. The lightning incident which occurred at around 4 pm on Sunday struck these two persons making them unconscious. Both were rushed to the hospital to be declared dead on arrival.

Both belonged to poor families. Kariya is survived by wife while Koragu has left behind wife and 3 young daughters.
As per reports from government officials, 10 people have lost life so far in the Puttur taluk alone.

Heavy losses due to destruction of crops have taken place everywhere that magnitude is higher in and around Sullia. Gopalakrishna Bhat, a resident of Kotebagilu has lost more than 75 areca trees due to rains.
In Karkal taluk five incidents of lightning accidents have been reported.

In Belvai near Moodbidri a house belonging to Laksmi a coolie worker has been totally affected by the lightning accident. The lady who lived with her two children is inconsolable. The electricity interruptions too have been reported from all over Dakshina Kannada especially from Moodbidri and Karkal areas.

Kundapur and Udupi regions too reported heavy rains with lightning and thunder on Sunday.

While few parts of the coastal region have seen the brighter sun on Monday morning, most places are still covered with clouds. The rains are expected to continue.
