Karnataka HC adjourns hearing on Jaya's bail plea till Monday

Bangalore, Sept 30 (DHNS) : The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing on the bail plea of AIADMK supremo and former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa to Monday, Oct 6.

Jayalalithaa moved the Karnataka HC on Monday seeking bail and suspension of the sentence ordered by the Special CBI court that convicted her for possessing wealth disproportionate to her known sources of income.

Jayalalitha’s advocate filed a criminal appeal in the high court seeking suspension of the sentence. Two interlocutory applications (I/A) have also been filed seeking stay on the conviction and bail.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka government has appointed senior counsel G Bhavani Singh as the special public prosecutor (SPP) for the criminal appeal filed in the high court. Singh was the SPP even in the CBI Special Court that awarded the sentence to Jayalalitha and three others.

One of the lawyers appearing for the convicts said that their arguments would be mainly based on the “miscalculation” of income and assets by the trial court.

    This delay till Monday has a hidden meaning. Few days are required to arrange!!! bail.
    Some one once had "arranged" for bail. But it had backfired then but later again got bail.
    It all depends on who is "available"
    She is convicted in the case with all deliberations and taking into account everything. What more is there to give her bail on the same case? If 18 years are not enough to close this case, what is our law then? It sounds so humbug.....

    Why bail when she already convicted and sentenced. She should already started her jail tenure by cutting grass, grinding stones.

    the iniator of this case should not be forgotten who is dr subramanian swamy.he has already d he will not rest until he brings all the corruption kings of 2g,cwg,adarsh,coalgate etc to justice.

    How will she pay Rs100 crore fine?.
    Does she have Rs 100 crore white money ?
    If she has Rs 100 crore to pay fine, it will become another one financial crime.
    I think her part is going to collect donations to pay fine.
    Let us see how may donors will come forward.
    She is most unlikely to get bail soon.

    18 years of delay and she is not ready to spend 18 days in jail.Why give her special treatment when she is already convicted.With her arrest there is a hope of acche din coming to India
