Mangalore: Senior Citizens Welfare Assn celebrates first anniversary

Mangalore, Sep 30: The Senior Citizens Welfare Association Bendur celebrated their first anniversary on Saturday September 27 at the Bendur Church Hall.

Senior citizens awards for 'Excellence in Service' were conferred on Judith Mascarenhas, Gilbert Pinto, Rudolph D’Silva, Zozimus Pais and Walter Colaco. A quarterly 'Senior Citizens News Letter' edited and published by professor Edmund Frank was released on the occasion. Prizes were distributed to the winners in the sports competition held for senior citizens.



Professor Edmund Frank, convener and president of the Senior Citizens Association, Bendur welcomed the gathering and delivered the introductory address. Fr Antony Serrao, parish priest presided. Walter D’Souza, chairman, Federation of Indian Export organizations was the chief guest.

Allen Pereira, former chairman and MD of Bank of Maharashtra and Marcel Monteiro, chairman, Rachana Senior Citizens Trust were the guests of honour. All the speakers expressed a wish that such Senior Citizens Welfare Associations should be set up in other parishes also.

John Rodrigues, treasurer, conducted the invocation, Rita Rodrigues, secretary read the report and Dennis D’Souza, vice president proposed the vote of thanks.
