Bangalore: Jayalalithaa not getting VIP treatment: Jail official

Bangalore, Oct 2 (PTI): AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa is not getting VIP treatment, but being looked after as any other ordinary prisoner at the Parapanna Agrahara Central prison where she is lodged after conviction in the disproportionate assets case, according to a top jail official.

"Madam (Jayalalithaa) is getting no VIP treatment. She is being treated as any other prisoner at Parapanna Agrahara," DIG Prisons P M Jaisimha told PTI here.

She has conducted herself very politely with the prison officials and not made any demand for luxury, except that she has asked for an iron cot as per doctors' advise, he said.

Jayalalithaa has not even asked for a television set, while a common TV is provided even for ordinary prisoners, he said.

"She instead insists on providing things as per the manual rules of the prison. She has not made any demand for luxury, except ordering for an iron cot as per the doctors' advice. She has been very polite with the officials," he said.

Since Jayalalithaa is a short-termer (a prisoner who is not undergoing rigorous imprisonment), she is allowed to wear her garments, he said. She is happy wearing sarees only and she is not wearing any cosmetics either, Jaisimha added.

Jayalalithaa also is being looked after by her close aide Sasikala and Elavarasi, the latter's relative, who have also been imprisoned in the same women's barracks, he said.

The AIADMK chief is keeping good health and eating simple food as per doctors' advice, besides reading newspapers, Jaisimha said. "She is eating brown bread, milk, biscuits, fruits and chappatis, if she demands," he said.

The 66-year-old three-time chief minister, who has been allotted VVIP cell number 23 of the prison, also reads newspapers without fail, Jaisimha said. "Without any fail, madam reads three English dailies every day," he said.

Jayalalithaa, who is now prisoner number 7402 at the jail, wakes up early in the morning and takes a stroll in the premises of the prison, the official said.

Sasikala and her relatives, Elavarasi and Sudhakaran have been given prisoner numbers 7403, 7404 and 7405 respectively. The Special Court has sent Jayalalithaa and three other accused to four years in jail.

The law has taken its course. In the words of Bikram Vohra, the famous editor of Gulf News, the little known or unknown judge Michael D'Cunha deserves accolade and standing ovation for following the law and delivering the verdict at his own and his families risk. I don't think, the Indian Media has recognized this fact.
Coming to the ex CM Jayalalita, if she is really repentant, which she should be, it is time that she address her followers and bakts, who call her Devi Mata, that she is just another human being and all of them should accept the law of the land and stop chaos created by her arrest and imprisonment. If she s this from the walls of the prison, I am sure people will admire her even if she rots in the prison (which she may not)
Can we hope to have 10 more Judge Michael D'Cunha's across India? I am sure, India will change a leaf for the better.

Law is the same for all and rules of the prison are also the same for all. It is good gesture on the part of Madam Jaylalitha not to ask for any special treatment even though the public opinion is that she is provided VVIP treatment.

Let the law of the land prevail and justice for all - all for justice slogan ring the ears of every one.

    Kuldesh

As a Stateswoman, she has few rivals.
The way she is holding sway in Tamilnadu, people are ready to lay their lives for her.
But she is a very corrupt Political leader as far as DA concerned. She is not alone in that as that is the way of life with most of the Politicians\Ministers etc.
Even now, in jail, she is the boss there and has her way for anything she needs and the Jail authorities are lying to say she is treated like any other prisoner!!!! (Joke of the century by police...!!)
Can the police really deny giving her anything she DEMANDS!! when she is this Karnataka Prison...???

Jail officials should give her Amma Idli and Amma Dosa instead of VIP treatment. Jaya, reached her destination after a long time. Hope she will understand the difficulties faced by others due to false cases imposed on them. Be you ever so high, the law is above you. Mind it Jayaji!.

Whatsoever said and done, one must appreciate Jayaji for sheer guts....
    Imagine this....
1.A girl born in Melkote,Mandya in Karnataka ruling Tamil Nadu, now?
2)Has almost the whole of Tamil Nadu at her feet...which 'no other politician in ANY STATE can boast of??
3)Is sure to re-elected if elections to TN assembly are held immediately??
    4) Look at her early life and struggles! Ruled by her mother first and then by MGR in the first three decades of her life??
    5) I heard Jayaji's interview once where she said that there was no such thing as 'unconditional love'!
That revealed a lot and the 'pain' she must have gone through.
    6) It's her pain and experiences that have made her the 'Iron Lady' she is today.
    7) Lack of proper guidance and 'exploitation' by systems throughout have made her what she is today.
    8) Her life is in itself like a 'script' for a potboiler which the knowing will never deny.Think Sidney Sheldon has copied some parts of her life for his 'Rage Of Angels'! You think I am kidding??
    9) Though this is not holding a 'candle' for her , a need for knowing 'why she is -what she is now' might help unravel the real truth.
10)Tell me at the end of it all...
'Will there ever be any other Jaya Madam'?? No??Agree then!!
