Mangalore, Oct 3: To mark 'Gandhi Jayanthi,' the District Unit of Bharath Scouts and Guides organized an interaction programme with Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, at his residence in Balmatta here on Thursday October 2.

After offering floral tribute to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi, DC urged students the to pose questions to him irrespective of any field.

During the interaction, Pradhyum Murthy of Rotary Primary School raised a question, "Do you support the Nethravathi river diversion project?"

DC giving a description about the system and its responsibility, said, "In the district, from the past several years, the river flows from the Western Ghats into the sea. Districts like Kolar and Tumkur receive annual rainfall of 80cm, whereas Dakshina Kannada receives annual rainfall of 400cm." He added that the districts are always interdependent in trade and commerce and questioned whether it was wrong in providing drinking water to those who do not have water to drink.

Swapna from Cassia High School said, "Gandhi said that true independence is when a woman walks fearless during midnight, but today she cannot walk in broad day light because of sexual assaults?"
Answering the question, DC, said, "The system, police and administration cannot prevent crime. People's mindset should be changed. As this is a male dominated society, the perspective of people should be changed."

When Subash from Sharada Vidhayala questioned the ban on plastic, DC said that in the present day we were dependent on plastic commodities, but there has to be a controlled use of plastic.

N G Mohan, District Chief Commissioner of Bharath Scouts and Guides, Vasanth Rao, vice president of Bharath Scouts and Guides DK Unit, Irene D'Cunha, District Commissioner of Guides, Vasudev Bolar district treasurer and others were present.
