Udupi: Corrupt officials seek bribe from students attempting Hindustani Sangeeta exam

Daijiworld Media Network—Udupi (HB)

Udupi, Oct 8: Two government officials named Ramesh Ankola and Parashurama Gadag have been accused of being corrupt examiners in the valuation department.

It is alleged that both officials had sought payment of Rs 5,000 in order to allot pass marks in the Hindustani Sangeeta examination.

The incident took place at Girls Pre-University School, Udupi, on the morning of Wednesday October 8. Around nine students attended the examination the previous day. According to the students, both oral and written exams were conducted in a day.

The Karnataka Hindustani Sangeeta Higher education Committee, Bangalore, has been conducting the exam.

According to the students, all nine failed the exams. Later, when the students questioned the officials about their marks, the officials demanded cash to give them pass marks.

On Wednesday morning, parents rushed to the institution and alleged that the examiners have no concern for students. Many students spend sleepless nights to score good marks in the exam but these government officials gamble with the lives of students.

The parents have written a letter to higher officers to take stern action against the corrupt officials. Sources claimed that the students came from various districts.

Teachers and examiners should be role models to students. It is unfortunate that in this case the examiners have resorted to demand bribes to allot pass marks to students.

It is yet to be proved whether the examiners are guilty or not. However - if found guilty they should be severely dealt with and punished.

I am not surprised. Taking bribes and passing is Indian fashion and that is why now a days, no companies or educational institutions are prepared to accept our credentials unless they cross check to ensure it is genuine. Top to bottom Fekugiri. This is one more culture of ours!

What a shame - taking bribes from student. It is better that they sit on the street and beg.

It is easy for Govt. officials to demand bribe and steal money from the people than thieves stealing gold from shops and snatching chains from the ladies.

Mr. Prime Minister, your priorities are wrong. On October 2, you fooled people by dragging in Mahatma Gandhi in the name of cleaning the country. But what we need is a broom to clean corruption. Would you show the courage to wipe out corruption?
