Beltangady/Puttur, Oct 10: KSRTC bus drivers and conductors on Friday October 10 went on strike to protest against the assault on a bus driver belonging to KSRTC at Kokkada following a minor serial accident with a car.

The accident took place at Kokkada on Thursday October 9 afternoon. The KSRTC bus plying between Dharmasthala and Subrahmanya hit a car from behind. The car in turn hit a tourist jeep in front of it. The loss was breakage of windowpanes of the car.

The people, who gathered after the accident, cornered the bus driver Puttaraju (30) from Hassan and assaulted him. The reason cited for the assault was that the bus driver was speeding. A person then intervened to save the driver and took him to a petrol station nearby. But the mob was so violent that it dragged the driver back and assaulted him again.

Puttaraju was admitted to a hospital in Mangalore. Uppinangady police registered the case.

Angered by the assault on their colleague, KSRTC bus driver and conductors went on strike and stopped all bus operations at Dharmasthala depot. They condemned the incident and demanded immediate arrest of those who assaulted Puttaraju.

    Also, you should see how decent drivers and conductors in Bangalore are. Here in Mangalore, they think they are big Gundas. Also, I don't understand how the Mangalore cooperation allows all the buses to have those loud horns. In Bangalore it is banned.

    A few years ago a government bus hit my car. It was totally his fault. Yet, he argued and verbally abused me, my sister and my mom. He later challenged me and went off. I filed an FIR and after maybe 3 years he is been fined and dismissed from his work.

    My point is, these government drivers have no fear of misbehaving or following rules. Maybe that is why the crowd thrashed him. I would say they did the right thing.

    In India it takes several years and lot of effort to go to the court for you and the witnesses to bring someone to justice.

    A few beatings would be a proper justice. Its not like people can't differentiate right from wrong.

    Just imagine you are alone in the middle of no where and you meet with an accident and these drivers and conductors harass you. Wouldn't you be enraged??

    I WAS A VICTIM TO THE RECKLESS DRIVING BY A PUTTUR- MANGALORE BUS BEARING REG NO 2922. I WAS DRIVING AN I10 CAR WITH MY FAMILY ON OCTOBER 1ST 2014 AND AT AROUND 7.30 PM, NEAR BUNTS CIRCLE A KSRTC BUS CAME FROM BEHIND AND HIT THE FRONT RIGHT DOOR OF THE CAR CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE DOOR.BY GODS GRACE WE ESCAPED WITH OUT ANY PHYSICAL INJURIES. THE BUS STOPPED A LITTLE BIT AHEAD & WHEN I WENT TO INFORM HIM ABOUT HIS RECKLESS DRIVING, HE INTURN TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO MOVE TO THE SIDE & LET THE BUS PASS. AS I HAD TO TRAVEL ON A VACATION THE VERY NEXT MORNING AT 5AM, I DID NOT FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE POLICE. THE KSRTC BUS DRIVERS THINK THAT THEY CAN ESCAPE EASILY WITH SUCH INCIDENTS AND THIS MAKES THEM MORE ARROGANT AND RESORT TO RECKLESS DRIVING.IF THE CONCERNED AUTHORITIES FAIL TO TAKE ACTION, THEN THE PUBLIC WILL TEACH THEM A LESSON THE RIGHT OR THE WRONG WAY.

    Can we know what is the speed limit from NH kokkada to Dharmastala by the authorities? i condem the assult on driver by the public they are not the authority to punish. mean time i demnad bus driver should be immideately arrested & dismissed from his service. And also i demand ksrtic management to take strict action against your staff who protested to safegurd the faulty driver.

    This was bound to happen, if you have notorious rowdies like Girish Rao in DK, this will happen, Police should now stop working under pressure from political parties and take appropriate action, I am damn sure those who attacked this poor driver belonged to this rowdy's group.

    KSRTC buses never come to particular spot at same time. Most of the drivers/conductors never bothered to stop or slow the bus even when people are standing in the particular stop. This is because they are more bothered at halting the bus near the hotels where they get free food. To cover the timing they over speed the bus bcoz which this type of incident happens. In belvai near Moodbidri they stop for breakfast for 20 minutes which is unbelievable. Most of the buses reach a particular place at almost the same time and after that for long time there will be no bus at all. If private buses can maintain the timing so perfectly why not KSRTC bus? Most of the people who want to travel by KSRTC bus gets in the private bus becuase of this timing problem. This is the reason KSRTC is in loss eventhough they have big and sufficient place for seating compared to the private buses.

    when the Public daily experience the horrors in the streets from these Bus drivers( both KSRTC n PVT) people are bound to express their anger (tho it should not be the case).The RTO n Police should step up their drive against Rash n Negligent driving.
    The Highway police should pull up these Drivers n Fine them.
    The Accidents daily n the innumerable near misses ,makes driving on our roads ...Lucky Escapes !!!...Only the Gods are Happy as so very often we Pray n Thank him for keeping/delivering us Safe n sound ....

    In general, tempers are already running high after an accident. When the offending vehicle driver tries to blame the victim vehicle drivers and refuses to acknowledge his mistake things flare up. By the way, these folks did not go on strike when people roughed up truck driver when a KSRTC bus rear ended the truck few days back! Only God know what happened in this particular incident. But all said and done, beating up people for road accidents is not justified.

    KSRTC ADMN.SHOULD TAKE SERIOUS ACTION ON THOSE WHO OPT FOR STRIKE FOR THE FAULT OF DRIVER HITTING THE CAR.
    THE PUBLIC MIGHT HAVE EXPERIENCED RASH SPEEDY DRIVING SINCE LONG.

    The most of the bus drivers, be them of KSRTC or private carrier,are rash drivers which I have witnessed on the Udupi/Mangalore highways. They would drive opposite to your car and terrorize you, and in panic you would end up driving on the shoulder of your left side vehicles.

    Accidents are preventable and non-preventable. The case here looks like the KSRTC bus was on speed and it is always 100% fault of the driver who hits from back.

    He deserves the assault and this action would serve as a lesson to other errant drivers.
