Narendra Modi undermining dignity of PM's post says Pawar

Mumbai, Oct 12 (PTI) : The NCP chief on Sunday hit at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he was compromising the prestige of PM's post by lowering the standard of public debate with personal attacks. Few days back Modi had accused Sharad Pawar and his kin of "enslaving" people in his stronghold Baramati.

"Prime Ministership is an institution and maintaining its dignity and prestige is the duty of one and all. It is sad that prestige is not being maintained.

"The Prime Minister's position is being undermined and the standard of public debate has been lowered by those occupying it. Personal attacks are given priority in speeches," Pawar said here at an interaction organised by the Mantralaya and Vidhimandal Vartahar Sangh, an association of reporters who cover legislature and government.

At an election rally in Baramati earlier this week, Modi had said NCP's election symbol 'clock' symbolised their misdeeds. He also alleged that senior Pawar and his nephew and former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had enslaved the people of Baramati with their domination in all spheres of life.

Taking strong objection to pictures of Modi and his speeches in the US being used as campaign material for the BJP in Maharashtra, Pawar said, "Modi visited the US as Prime Minister of the country and not leader of BJP. It is unfortunate that his speeches are being shown as part of the party's campaign and it is height of misuse of power."

Replying to questions, Pawar said it was too early to assess Modi's performance as Prime Minister since May.

"However, he has to focus on priorities. At least appoint a full time Defence Minister so that the morale of the forces on the borders is boosted. Ceasefire violations are happening on daily basis," Pawar said rejecting Modi's charge that border tensions are being politicised.

To a query on Modi's campaign in the state, the former Agriculture Minister said every politician has the right to campaign for his party but state issues are highlighted in Assembly polls. He said the national leadership should fulfil its responsibility of looking after border tensions and take steps to boost the morale of the Army.

It is pertinent to mention here that on October 15 Assembly elections are due in Maharashtra and this time five political parties are fighting for Chief Ministers post.

PM Modi has exceeded the expectations of all Indian citizens by reaching out to them through all forms . We have never had a PM in the past who called himself a "servant " of the country or who invited people to connect with him via social media . He openly discusses issues and he is totally in sync with the suffering and the pain of ordinary people. He is making efforts on all levels to propel this nation forward. Mr Pawar , would you call that "undermining the dignity of PM's post"? I think that he more than deserves the post of PM and has given a new meaning to being the PM. Indian citizens are looking up to him and respect him. Mr. Pawar, just be quiet and keep whatever little dignity you have else your meaningless rants will make people take away whatever little you earned.

Elevation of Modi to the position of PM is just comparable to the common man in India doing nothing against an open molestation of a girl,or day light murder in front of public,or pick pocket snatching a woman,s purse in public glare and public doing nothing about it. The silent majority of good people in India are hardly bothered about evils plaguing the society.

Modi is the prime minister and also a politician. What is the problem with you guys if he does campaign?

Your MMS also campaigned in Karnataka in 2013 when he was PM. Siddu being a CM campaigned rigorously for MP election and recent bi-election. Nothing wrong in that.

I know Mr.Pawar.. u were happy when u worked for a MUTE Prime minister and ur worried about those posts and protocols and wont worry for real people!!

    1) why were u mum when US humiliated Gujarat CM for 10 years and ur MPs were writing him to deny him visa.. today its a tamacha on ur face and he n his followers r celebrating..

    2) U were the CM when the riots happnd in Mumbai and u were quiet, isnt it? Dawood could come n keep a bomb beneath ur a$$ n u were happy cos ur secular votebank was intact..
    3) Where was "honour etc" when ur close confidante Aaba (RRPatil) gave untshunt media bites? ... "rape anyone after elections, chote chote cheezen hote hain bade shahern mein... " .. u know ur RRPatil was Home minister when Kasab came!!... what protocol did Depty CM ajit pawar followed when "Baandh mein kya..moothoon?" kinda comment?
    4) U were such a good cultured agricultural minister that so many people had to commit suicide in ur own state, but ur aim was to stop "communal force"!... so much that even passer by had to slap u on ur face to shut u up!
5)u and ur dynasty politics and ur clutches on anti social elements, traders, stockers, Hoarders, BCCI, fixers, co op society, sugar lobbies, Dalals, power brokers, tobacco industries, have ruined the state completely.... Thank you, this time its a END GAME!!!>... Just put off ur "ALARM CLOCK" GADIYAL"... go to sleep, Mr.Pawar, keeping the tobacco under ur lips!!! GODSPEED!!!! ....

However it is unbecoming of him to speak ill of the PM just because he was the only tall leader to campaign in Pawar's home turf Baramati - which incidentlly is the most backward in terms of development in Maharashtra...Its still in the 19th century looks like....Power voltage is low, farmer suicides are a telling tale of the economy that NCP - Congress drove in Maha for last 15 years!!!

Modi is the face of BJP & Main campaigner. There is surety that this time around BJP on its own would cross 145 , no doubt about that...Its becoming all parties against BJP in Maha now!!
