Udupi, Oct 15: The district and sessions court, which is hearing a case of gang rape of a medical student of Manipal University, has adjourned hearing in the case to November 11.

Advocates appearing for the accused had objected to the dropping of names of 16 witnesses out of the list of 108 witnesses in the case by the court here. Through an appeal filed in the state high court, they had pleaded for inclusion of these witnesses. The high court had upheld this plea, but the prosecutor in the department of prosecutions and government litigations in the state had approached the Supreme Court through an appeal against the high court order.

When the case came up for hearing on Tuesday October 14, the public prosecutor stated that the above case is yet to come up for hearing in the Supreme Court and therefore, sought time. Based on this request, the hearing was adjourned.

The Manipal police had produced Yogish, Hariprasad Poojary and Anand Panar, who have been charged with abduction and rape of the medical student, in the court. Harindra and Balachandra, who have been facing allegation of destruction of evidence, were also present in the court when the case came up.
