Mangalore, Oct 15: As part of its 9th ‘Chavadi’ programme, the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy released a compilation of 10 renowned Tulu plays in its office here on Wednesday October 15.
Kishore D Shetty, president, Federation of Tulu Theatre Artistes and Dr Sanjeeva Dandakeri veteran play writer and film producer, released the compilation.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Dandakeri said, “In order to preserve Tulu plays, they should be printed and published in the form of books. Books help to preserve the contribution of the writer and will reach everyone.
"Sixty years ago, Tulu plays were not allowed to be performed in educational institutions and religious places because the humour in it was considered vulgar. This led to the exclusion of families and people did not attend the staging of plays. In later years, Tulu drama became modified; people accepted the change and began supporting the trend. In the contemporary scenario, plays are giving a message as well as providing entertainment," he added.
On this occasion, Tulu teachers Frank Hilary D’Souza, headmaster, and Dinesh R Shettigar, Tulu teacher, Pompei School, were felicitated on behalf of the Academy.
M Janaki Brahmavar, president, Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, and Koppala Mohan Kadri were present.
